Foo Fighters will be his final musical guest.
The rest of the plans have been hush-hush.
Rumors of Leno showing up, but Dave has been as ruthless as ever on the Leno subject lately.
The Obamas and Clinton have already showed up.
He's been running clips for weeks, interviewed Paul, so it shouldn't be a clip show.

Howard Stern hit him up on this, do not think it will happen.

Steve Martin, Billy Crystal and Richard Simmons seem likely.
And some Rupert.
And some Rupert.

Bill Murray was as demented as ever last night. He truly has a bizarre sense of humor. I bet he'd be fun to hang around with at crawfish boil or tailgate party.
Bob Dylan was... Bob Dylan. Although, you could fully understand at least 1/3 of the lyrics!
I thought Tom Hanks and Eddie Vedder were both great on the Monday night show.

The Rupert G segment last night was funny.

Martin was on already for his last appearance on the show. Rupert was on last night for his retrospective.
I never thought of Crystal as one of Dave's favorites. Possibly Simmons for a quick bit.

Nice of him to do his "cannonball" line when he was passing the bottle to Dave.

No fricking way will he let him rain on his parade.
Has Howard Stern shown up yet? That's one of his regulars from the start, so he wouldn't be a bad final guest.

Stern was on last week with Don Rickles. Stern asked if Leno would be on the final show. Dave looked at his producer and asked her, she stood there with a horrified look and wouldn't say yes or no.

In. So long, Dave.
I used to stay up and watch him every night, and I lived on the East Coast. I haven't watched in a while, but the 80's era of the show was some of the best TV ever.
The prancing fluids were actually at Comeaux HS in Lafayette for a while, but I don't know what happened to them.

He mentioned Lafayette pretty often for a while, when his intern Bridget's sister was trying to get on the court at Comeaux and then when she was going to marry in Lafayette. Weird seeing Letterman hold up a picture of her fiance and saying his name, since a bunch of us had gone to school with the guy.

They showed parts of this last night, but here's one of my favorite Rupert Jee bits.

He lives in Charleston. Maybe you can find him at a lowcountry boil.

Billy Crystal was on recently and did some sappy song tribute to Dave.

Rupert interrupting the McDonald's security guy's phone call by asking, "Are you talking to Mayor McCheese?" is one of the single funniest moments of late night TV.

Since I grew up in one of Dave's Home Offices (Sioux City, IA) I will certainly be watching the final show tonight.

Becky, she was three years older than me
here is a clip from Jan 1987
the Prancing Fluids were displayed in the lobby for the rest of the year and the last I heard they were in storage in the supply room under the stairwell in the main building.
quote:
A name David Letterman gave to a fountain he had installed in front of his desk on the NBC incarnation of Late Night. Letterman had a switch behind his desk and when he flipped it, the fountain shot up several streams of water that "pranced" in time to a light show. The fountain, introduced during a viewer mail segment on March 26, 1987, was initially called "The Dancing Waters" until Letterman received a letter from "Dancing Waters Inc." informing him the name was trademarked and he was not at liberty to use it on his TV show. So, the dancing waters became the prancing fluids.
Letterman eventually donated the Prancing Fluids fountain to a high school in Lafayette, Louisiana "in lieu of cash". A Letterman staffer named Bridget Jackson had a sister (Becky) who was running for Homecoming Queen. Letterman, always eager to help staffers and their families, offered everyone in Becky's senior class $5 if Becky was voted Homecoming Queen. Becky won the title but Letterman ended up not sending the cash. Possibly he felt guilty for buying an election. So, in lieu of cash, he donated the Prancing Fluids fountain to the high school.
Although gone, the fountain does live on in reruns. However, if you ever catch pre-Prance Letterman repeats where he refers to the fountain as the dancing waters, you'll notice "not associated with Dancing Waters, Inc." flashes at the bottom of the screen.

10/28/87 Season 6, Episode #0934
Tom Jones sings the theme to "Supermarket Finds." Staffer Bridget Jackson's sister Becky is competing for Homecoming Queen, so Dave bribes Becky's senior class $5 to vote for her. (A week later, she wins, but Dave sends the class the Prancing Fluids instead.)

I'm not sure they're there anymore. A friend of mine have me the long rundown of where all they went, and the storage room was like 3rd in the progression. He thought that someone now had them at their house. They would be a great collector's item if people generally remembered them, which I don't think they do.
I hope we get a performance of "It's a Late Might World," but I guess NBC owns the rights. Maybe Carl Reiner's "Lettermania."
This is going to be emotional. Carson and Letterman used to be the best two hours of TV. Johnny's farewell was big for me, and this will be to, though I've watched maybe 5 shows in the last year.
