Vincent Curitola (Johhny Sack) was very good as was Isabella Sciorra (Gloria Trillo...crazy broad who killed herself)and Joe Pantoliano (Ralphie Cifaretto)...can't say the same for most of Tony's crew though.

Most of the characters weren't supposed to speak in complete sentences. They were street thugs. To say that Carm and Tony were the only good actors is poppycock. The other actors were good at portraying the other characters, mainly misfits and hooligans.

Love that Pauly.

Bobby Bacala had one of my favorite scenes. He eases into a conversation with a union steward at a bar and innocently but unmistakably threatens the hell out of the guy to get him to swing a vote for the mob. Very well written.

Phil Leotardo was the man

Tony Soprano: So that's it. No leeway, no compromise, just stupid frickin' jokes.

Phil Leotardo: You want compromise, how's this? Twenty years in the can I wanted manicott', but I compromised. I ate grilled cheese off the radiator instead. I wanted to frick a woman, but I compromised. I jacked off into a tissue. You see where I'm goin'?

And rewatching episodes now, yikes, it really doesn't hold up.

although sopranos is my #2 all time, i rewatched the first few episodes on hbogo a few months ago and thought the same thing. i think for some reason the first episode stood out to me as being somewhat cheesy and dated.

I thought it was a great cast, top to bottom and most guests. Great guest runs by Joey Pants and Buscemi. A lot of these characters were intended to be Jersey mafia caricatures.

The only cast of any sort of size that leaps out to me as better in quality was on The Wire.

Yeah the first episode is a bit over the top, like when Tony and Chris are hitting the guy with their car and beating the shite out of him in plain view of everyone.

It's also startling seeing how much skinnier Gandolfini was in the pilot, his voice is completely different too.

I was going to mention this as well. It's crazy how much he changed physically from the first show to the last. Shows like the wire and breaking bad ran for almost as long as sopranos, and minus any child actors, i don't recall anyone aging/changing as dramatically as gandolfini. Come to think of it, most of the adult actors in the sopranos didn't change much at all.

The therapist that told her she should get divorced and not even accept any support from Tony was right.

That was a tough truth that Carmela couldn't accept. The therapist was played by Sully Boyar (most of you might remember him as the bank manager in Dog Day Afternoon) - in one of his last roles.

I always laugh when they beat the $hit out of him at the intervention when he talks back to his mother (and she was piece of work.)
