This is one of the movies where no matter how many people say how great it is, I have no desire to watch it. I'm sure I will see it eventually though.

Thought it was a phenomenal movie.

Easily my favorite movie of the year. But I haven't rewatched edge of tomorrow yet.

It's so weird that people start a thread in the middle of a movie.

I'm as big a fan of GotG as there is around here and I still don't agree with this.

I think it's less straight up hating because it's popular and more, just being more direct in their ideas about why they didn't enjoy a film.

There are plenty of films that don't entertain everyone. This is nothing new.

To put it simply, I don't think someone who dislikes GotG is doing it because it's popular, I think someone disliking GotG probably dislikes the movie but find more concrete ways to dislike BECAUSE it is popular.
I think it is a process.

-person hears it is awesome
-person hears it is super awesome
-person sees the movie
-person thinks it is great, but not as great as they thought due to unrealistic expectations created
-person declares it "good but overrated"
-person has to defend the statement while defending, has to bash the movie over and over
-person has now convinced themselves that the movie is terrible, despite initially thinking it was great.

or something like that

Fantastic intro though. Chris Pratt already has me sold on the movie.

They tried to pack a trilogy worth of movie into a single film.

DoFP (comic) had so much build up and back story.

I agree DoFP could have been a great trilogy.

Ding! Ding! Ding!

And thus the anti-hype wars began last year.

I saw it yesterday. Very fun and entertaining. Good movie overall. MotY though? That would mean it is a very weak year for movies.

I was also late to the game here because I so disliked many of the avenger movies (I did like CA2, IM1 and IH)

Chris Pratt certainly channeled his inner Han Solo and I was really impressed with Bradley Cooper...a surprising amount of emotion for a light hearted adventure.

Still, nothing this summer even came close to topping dawn of the planet of the apes for me.

Well, I do think GotG is the most "Marvel" of the Marvel films, so it's sort of the Rosetta Stone of the DC/Marvel debate. GotG is gleeful fun. It takes the characters seriously, which is important, and not much else. DC movies are far more grounded and self-serious. If you dislike the Marvel aesthetic, this is the movie that will drive you insane.

I mean, it's got a walking tree and a talking squirrel.
