Sopranos is the best show ever.

Meh - AJ and Meadow were complete wastes.

Carmela wasn't much better.

The gangster casting was spot on, though.

The only weak spot on BB's cast was Walt, Jr. Skyler and Marie were right for their characters and written much better than the non-Tony "Sopranos".

I think AJ and Meadow were boring in comparison to the rest, but they played a key role. They represented a part of the family that hasn't been "infected" yet by the convoluted system. They were in constant rebellion against an entire world of contradictions that never quite made moral sense, and led by non other than their dad. I do think their roles portrayed the innocent collateral damage of the system.

On another note, Junior was one of the best...

aj and meadow weren't anything special but better than walt jr.
carmela>>> skylar/marie
christopher molisanti was by far a better/more interesting character than anyone on BB except walter white.
paulie walnuts was awesome. a lot of the characters on both BB and sopranos were essentially caricatures, but paulie was the best of the bunch.
tony soprano is the greatest character in the history of film or television.

i think overall the characters, acting and casting was markedly better on sopranos than BB.(I'm not a BB hater its my #3 tv show of all time)

When you factor in the large cast of The Sopranos, I tend to agree.

However, BB was pretty good, character-for-character. Jonathan Banks' "Mike" and Esposito's "Gus" were as good as any support characters in television history. And Cranston's "Walter White" is up there with Gandolfini's "Tony Soprano" and Chiklis' "Vic Mackey", although, if pressed, I concede that Tony is probably the best television character since Lucy Ricardo - and the best ever for a dramatic series (with Vic Mackey and Walter White, Senior, close behind).

i agree with you about lucy ricardo. she is the second greatest tv character of all time(albeit in a completely different genre than Tony soprano).

What irked me about breaking bad is that walt jr, skylar and marie are just bad characters. Worse than anyone on sopranos. It's problematic for me because they were main characters.

This is where we really disagree. If you compare Chris Moltisanti to Gus or Mike, its not even close. Chris was by far a better written and developed character. We watched him go from a young kid trying to prove himself, to made man, and then his descent which included drug addiction, attempting a legit career, dealing with death, etc. None of that existed with Mike or Gus.

FWIW, Hank was my second favorite character on BB; i liked him better than mike, pinkman, saul or gus.

Chris was a main character, though - he is more analagous to Jesse in BB. And those characters are similar in many ways.

Chris is better than Jesse, IMHO, by greater than the distance that Tony is better than Heisenberg (and, again, Tony is #1 but Vic Mackey and Walter White are right there - IMHO - each was exceptionally well acted and written - if anything, it was the surrounding gangster characters that give Tony a little bit of an edge - but each of these actors was asked to carry a show and each delivered an A+ effort - overall).

Someone did a big blog on the ending of the Sopranos, I suggest you google it and read it because that's what I think the creators of the show wanted to happen. The blog was very good wrap up piece of entire show and it was credible.

I don't think they were written to be likable. They're all the unfortunate result of Tony's life and faults. Spoiled but listless and wholly insecure. A Carm that was nice, sweet and loving and wasn't annoying and faux-controlling would have been insincere. A strong cool confidant AJ as well. We wanted them to be better but they generally couldn't be and still be genuine to the storyline.

Tigerpawl, you're absolutely right, the Sopranos does have a lot of hilarious moments that I believe are meant to be the comedic relief, and they do it very well. The actors in the Sopranos are top-notch, as well as the writing and directing, and it all came together to form so many layers- drama, comedy, action, suspense, tension, etc.

One particular scene that gets me laughing every time is the funeral scene where the Soprano and Lupertazzi families are attending the funeral of the slain Joey Peeps. At the beginning of the scene, there is a close-up of the tombstone, which says "Peeps". Apparently the Soprano family was in charge of providing his tomb-stone as Tony looks at it and tells Silvio, "Peeps? It's a effin' nick-name! The family name is Pepparelli!" Silvio then looks uneasy and says " We gotta re-do it. Frickin' Jason... he's dyslexic". Tony then says, "What does that gotta do with it?!"

There are so many scenes like that, where there is a comedic moment where you least expect it, in a somber scene like a funeral. One of the factors that made this show the best! :)

All three of them were much more tolerable than walt jr, marie, or skylar IMO
