K9, I was part of the group that believed Tony lived on past that night in the diner, because at the time I felt that the cut to black was just the end of the show. But the more I thought about it, and re-watched it, the more it made sense. What really helped change my mind was an awesome piece of writing that explained everything in such precise detail that you couldn't help but be drawn in by it. I'm not sure if anyone else has already posted it on this thread, but just in case, here it is!

See I agree, and think its obvious, that Tony got popped, but I didnt like the POV aspect of it I guess. I get it, it was clever, and I probably would have never thought to do it if I was a director so props for the creativity, but I wanted to see some Sopranos' brain matter flying about.
Or maybe see the guy walk out of the bathroom gun in hand, and then cut to black.

The blog I posted had a crazy theory that Patsy was the one behind it. Also speculation that Butchie ok'd Tony after allowing Tony to take out Phil, to wipe the slate clean.

I think Jackie Aprile Jr. was more annoying than AJ, his character was such a wanna-be gangster, and unfortunately it ended badly for him. I think that was one of the lessons within the show, about the current generation being so heavily influenced by the Godfather and Goodfellas that they want to join the world of organized crime without realizing how treacherous it is and how it never ends on a good note. Prison or the morgue, unless a wiseguy becomes an informant, which seems to be a common occurrence these days. In Jackie Jr.'s case, his Dad was a Mob boss and a well-respected made guy in Tony's mob family, and Jackie Jr. was trying to walk in his father's foot-steps, but with disastrous results. A lot of times Jackie Jr. came off as a real D-bag though, I didn't like his character. So I think he takes the cake for most annoying over AJ.

It seems like there was no happy ending for Tony whether he lived or not, because he revealed that Carlo flipped and was going to testify against him. It seems like he was heading down the same path as John Sacrimoni, who was also betrayed by one of his own men. Like so many wise-guys, it was prison or death for Tony, and in his case, it seems it was the latter.

When y'all refer to POV, are you just referring to the black we saw? The very last scene was a Tony looking up to see Meadow opening the door to the diner. We were looking right at Tony's face, so it wasn't POV. I think the ending would've been even more effective if it had been done in a true POV style.

The show is Tony and nothing but Tony. Show ends the second he dies and not a moment later.

that was part of it...everytime someone came into the restaurant, the bell dinged, tony looks up and they show the person entering from tony's POV. It shows his POV when he enters Holsten's as well.
and in the first scene of the first episode it shows tony looking up at the statue and then his POV looking at the statue...so in the final scene Meadow walks, bell dings, Tony looks up and his POV is black.
I think I love the ending now, dammit.

My kids gave my Amazon Prime for my birthday. I was never one to watch the big HBO series - mainly because I was too cheap to subscribe. So I'm playing catch-up with The Sopranos on Amazon Instant Video. Am I the only one that thinks this series (ghoulishness aside) has to be one of the funniest productions in TV history? I'm dying laughing! All-time dark comedy series.

There are some really funny parts, for sure. Pine Barrens, Chrissie's intervention, the dumb Italians messing up popular expressions...

I like to believe that the whole family got whacked. I hated all of them.

how many times did the bartender at the bing get his arse kicked by tony?
Posted on 8/19/14 at 3:31 pm to BilJ
At least 3. And he kept coming back.
ETA: 4-5

Tony repeatedly hitting him over the head with the phone when he kept repeating "Hello?", the Big Mouth Billy Bass for being reminded of the death of Big Pussy, the ice tray for wasting ice, and the cash register drawer for when he says, "That's why ya gotta live for today" when Tony is discussing the potential mass murder that could be caused by further Al Qaeda attacks. In "University", Georgie is also hit in the eye by a chain while Ralph Cifaretto is emulating a scene from the 2000 film Gladiator.

Little carmine always was saying something stupid. Funniest guy on the show IMO.

Very Lazy ending. Appropriate but lazy.
Dislike it or hate it or think it didn't fit in the show then fine. But it is certainly not lazy.
