There’s good to great moments in all those latter seasons, it just all rings really hollow after you see it was all in the name of the completely brain dead ending they through out every single characters motivations and development leading up to the final season

And a lot of those moments were great in the moment but tied the shows hands behind its back, such as Arya killing the night king, which was a great TV moment and a shocking ending when you felt the show couldn’t shock you anymore, but the pieces that decision left behind is you’ve betrayed the entire stated philosophy of the show with 4-6 episodes left to fill time

I have said this a bunch of times but IMO if they had flipped the storylines in season 8 and had them go to Kings Landing / Dany goes crazy etc first, then finished the show dealing with the Night King / Others people would’ve been a lot happier with the ending

I never understand why people say it fell off in S6.

That gave us Home, Oathbreaker, The Door, Battle of the Bastards, and Winds of Winter. GTFO

I just spent 10 minutes looking over rankings of seasons from every major outlet including rankings by IMDB and Rotten Tomatoes critics and fan scores, and S6 was ranked in the top 4 in ALL of them. Many had it top 3 as do I.

I love season 6. Last 2 episodes are both in my top 10 of the whole series.

I don’t think you understand the reasons people didn’t like those seasons, it wasn’t about the episodes being slow

Well, I guess I should have said I didn’t have time to dwell on how I thought the story and characters should arc. I just watched and enjoyed.

I bet Bran isn't king in the books. D&D wanted to put "their stamp" on the series and ruined it. Bran should have been the new raven

What would you like to bet, because I’m in?
GRRM told Benioff and Weiss Hodor, Stannis’ fate and who sits on the Iron Throne at the end.

“It wasn’t easy for me. I didn’t want to give away my books. It’s not easy to talk about the end of my books. Every character has a different end. I told them who would be on the Iron Throne, and I told them some big twists like Hodor and ‘hold the door,’ and Stannis’s decision to burn his daughter. We didn’t get to everybody by any means. Especially the minor characters, who mau have very different endings.”

still maintain that GoT up to Jon retaking Winterfell and Dany setting sail to reclaim her birthright and Cersei going mad queen and blowing up the Pope and all of her enemies and her last son committing suicide because of it is easily some of the best TV there is, and if you just watch it to there you will be content and satisfied.

Truly. Especially ^^ That High Sparrow shite was getting real old and that was a great wrap to that.

They asked for more episodes in season 8 or a season 9 to fully develop the plot of Daenerys turning from good guy to bad guy but it wasn't approved.

This is a flat out lie. HBO was begging D&D to do more episodes but they were so fixated on their upcoming Star Wars project, that they declined.

Martin said from the beginning GoT needed 10 full seasons to tell the whole story.

Jon Snow was brought back to life just to kill Daenerys who's entire arc for 8 seasons was breaking the wheel and not being like her father just to end up like her father? The prince that was promised just ends up exiled at the wall? Jaimes entire redemption arc was ruined. Bran ending up King because "who has a better story"? frick the writers for ruining my favorite show ever.

Great summary. Especially Jon plodding away at the fricking wall.

, I might see how seasons 5-8 were tougher to get through. Being able to binge it made it super easy to power through any episodes that were a little slow.

That definitely wasn't the issue. Nothing wrong with having a slow episode if the writing is good. They gave up on the story and stopped caring about the writing. When your show creators are ready to be done and on to their next project, the show is going to suffer. At some point in the process someone, anyone, should have said "hey wait, all of these things are going to make basically everything we've shown for 8 seasons pointless."

The show could have went down as the greatest TV show in history but instead it went down as the worst ending in TV history. Congratulations Dumb and Dumber, you ruined a show to hurry up and get to a project that you ended up losing. Congratulations.

You can't be serious. HBO would have let that show go on for 20 season with an unlimited budget. That show was a cash cow. Dumb and DUmber were ready to move on and they rushed it. Fans new it, and it took a while but they confirmed it later on. They had an ending in mind and they were too lazy to take the time to tell it properly.

quote:

Years later, just before the series finale aired, the duo repeated the same line to Entertainment Weekly, saying, "HBO would have been happy for the show to keep going, to have more episodes in the final season. We always believed it was about 73 hours, and it will be roughly that. As much as they wanted more, they understood that this is where the story ends."/

The drop off from season 6 to 7 was bad but the drop off from 7 to 8 was worse

What made that difficult to swallow was they toke like 2 years to film like 6 episodes for season 8.

Who has a better story than a character who they literally didn’t include in an entire season

I thought they backed out of the Star Wars project themselves because after dealing with GOT backlash from devoted fans they didn't want to step into an even bigger fan devoted series (and risk even greater backlash).

So the Star Wars deal was announced early 2018, over a year before the ending to GoT. The season was terrible with tons of backlash obviously and those two don't even really talk to the media and canceled their con events. A couple months later they finally spoke at a film festival and said they have no idea why Martin entrusted them with his lifes work and during scenes or writing they were close to doing Monty Python and the Holy Grail. So all they did is make themselves look much worse.

TWO DAYS after that, they are done with Star Wars. I'm sorry, that wasn't them walking away, they got told yea this isn't going to work.
