Holy crap, that was awesome! Regarding complaints I had heard about seasons after #4, I guess if I was having to watch one episode per week, I might see how seasons 5-8 were tougher to get through. Being able to binge it made it super easy to power through any episodes that were a little slow.

Benioff and Weiss suck as writers. As soon as they diverged from Martin's work it went downhill.

It’s not that the later season episodes were slow, it’s that S7 and especially S8 just completely destroy every bit of plot and character building and make no sense

They did the Others dirty man.

The Night King didn’t deserve that.

Season six is when they diverged and season six was awesome. The Winds of Winter (S6E10), anyone? That piano intro might be the best thing I've ever seen on tv.

They asked for more episodes in season 8 or a season 9 to fully develop the plot of Daenerys turning from good guy to bad guy but it wasn't approved. And so we got the shite product where she went from good guy to bad guy in 2.5 episodes, which made the whole season just feel dumb.

2.5 episodes

Maybe, technically. The recap at the beginning of one those last eps was all snippets of edits that made her seem crazy. Out of nowhere is what it felt like.

Dany had a lot of faults, but she wasn’t an idiot and she sure as shite wouldn’t forget about the Iron Fleet. Jon also devolved into just saying muh Queen while Tyrion became useless. The drop off from season 6 to 7 was bad but the drop off from 7 to 8 was worse

Season 6 was a natural culmination of previous events that GRRM tried to get to but couldn't because the plot got away from him and he couldn't stop himself from introducing pointless characters like fake Aegon who seems to only exist because GRRM was buttmad that everyone guessed his super secret Jon related plot point in book 1.

Everything after s6 derailed HARD though and is what people mean when they say diverged from GRRMs work. And you can tell because suddenly characters no longer behaved like they had for the previous seasons and the seams started cracking because they were hell bent on rushing to the conclusion.

I still maintain that GoT up to Jon retaking Winterfell and Dany setting sail to reclaim her birthright and Cersei going mad queen and blowing up the Pope and all of her enemies and her last son committing suicide because of it is easily some of the best TV there is, and if you just watch it to there you will be content and satisfied.

It's what I did. Skipped 7 and 8 because I felt the story was satisfying and they wouldn't be able to top it. Only Watched 7 and 8 at my wife's insistence because she just had to know what happened next ... and to this day wish I didn't

It can be hard to end shite well. I suppose that's why GRRM still hasn't finished the books. For me, the ending season didn't take the shine off of what had been, up to that point, one of the greatest viewing experiences of all time. But maybe that's just me.

And just to be clear, I think the ending suuuuucked.

I may be mistaken, but from everything I remember it was HBO that wanted to extend the show but Dumb & Dumber refused. Maybe if they had focused less on their fanfiction romance between Grey Worm and Missandei, and had fewer dick/eunuch jokes, they could have fleshed out Dany's descent more.

HBO were the ones begging the creators for more episodes/seasons. It wasn’t the other way around.

You should’ve stopped at end of season 5, as that is where the current books end. Everything after that was created by morons, not grrm

Jon Snow was brought back to life just to kill Daenerys who's entire arc for 8 seasons was breaking the wheel and not being like her father just to end up like her father? The prince that was promised just ends up exiled at the wall? Jaimes entire redemption arc was ruined. Bran ending up King because "who has a better story"? frick the writers for ruining my favorite show ever.

That’s GRRM, you think it’s a coincidence that Bran is the first POV chapter in the series?

I bet Bran isn't king in the books. D&D wanted to put "their stamp" on the series and ruined it. Bran should have been the new raven

My boss got HBOMax late last year and binge watched it. we talked about it as he went through he enjoyed the entire experience. I think no wait between season 6,7, and 8 made for a better experience than we had watching in real time.

I don’t think you understand the reasons people didn’t like those seasons, it wasn’t about the episodes being slow
