I got cornered by one of the big reps who wanted to show me his Mercedes. He asked if I wanted to ride around in it, which was weird, and I declined.

I can't remember the name of this supplement, but it was one of those super food/1 shot a day drinks. This guy was the body builder type with sleeve tats. It was real weird.

Someone tried to get me into one of these during my undergrad. I was getting shitty hours at my sales job for not enough pay and I was young and dumb, so it tempted me. Then the meeting with the guy was held at Starbucks and he drove up in a 10 year old Honda CRX. I quickly realized the guy was full of shite and was not making money like he claimed to be. If he had driven a fancy car and had an office I might have fallen for it.

Isn't MLM just like a regular company? All the people at the bottom do the work and get pennies while the people at the top cash fat checks?

I don't understand how advocare scheme works, expecially when you can just buy all the shite off of Amazon.

But every trainer at the gym is hooked on that shite.

Except most other companies aren't predicated on you getting all your friends to work for literal pennies or, what is more likely, while paying the company.

When all of a companies revenue is generated from sales to employees, and you don't actually pay your employees, then no you're not like every other company.

5 downvotes....uh oh, are there some MLM shills here who got their feelings hurt?

Yeah, I've noticed that many MLM distributors will shame and/or strong-arm their recruits from the get go...I don't know if it's either a cheap motivational tactic, or just desperation on the distributors' part, knowing they're already in too deep themselves.

Now wait a minute, isn't Mary Kay just a clone of Avon? If it is the I know it's not your typical MSM (I'm assuming we're talking specifically about pyramid schemes).

My grandmother worked for Avon her entire life and would never try and recruit people. Hell, another rep in the area would take away from her sales.

When I was at LSU a friend convinced me to go to a Primerica presentation. Bill Whittle, who many know in BR is loaded as shite, came and presented to a few of us. He just eloquently laid out how it was a pyramid scheme

At least I got free TJ Rib's. I pleaded with my friend to walk away as it was clearly a pyramid scheme, and they had him trained with some bs explanation as to why it wasn't. Needless to say I ran into him months later, and he had quit

I lost a lot of respect for Drew Bress when he started being an Advocare promo.

Really Drew?

I almost got caught up in it as a broke kid trying to get money to get back in college.

They find you through people you trust. Those people have bought in so much that it's hard to see how fake it all is

They do a lot of mental gymnastics to convince you that they aren't a pyramid scheme and that this is all legit and that they are helping people

I went to a "meeting" and they set you up so that new members when like 100 dollars or some other similar prize and it really is like a cult. Everyone is just chanting and raving and they get local celebrities too to legitimize it, like I think it was an LSU kicker that was their big celebrity endorser

They all tell you about trips they won and money they made and how they are really close to quitting their jobs so they can do it full time

It's really convincing while you're in the moment. My instinct told me something wasn't right. Mine was like about selling insurance packages to people or something but the set up was the same

I do remember in college some company tried to get me with Gas cards or something like that. Like, you sell a $50 gas card and the person can get $75 in gas at certain gas stations. Seemed like it might be a good idea for a bit, since I was broke as hell. However, the buy in was $500, so I wised up pretty quickly at that point.

ALmost every one I've ever heard of made a big focus on recruiting immigrants and promising them the American dream. Easy pickins.

I'm not saying it's not shady or a bad idea, but MLM isn't a pyramid scheme.

It is a pyramid scheme. The structure of their business is you recruiting more people to join them and forcibly buy their product until they take everything from them. They are absolutely pyramid schemes.

That's not a pyramid scheme, not unless you're changing the definition of what a pyramid scheme is.
