Actually, for those that want him to be as close as possible to Flemming's source material, Tom Hiddleston would be tremendous.

I'm not wading into the "can James Bond be a black dude" waters but ANYONE that claims Idris Elba isn't suave or smooth is just a downright damn fool.
Idris is suave as all hell and smooth as silk. That's one fine man.

1. Bond is one of those roles, especially with Modern Day settings, where race doesn't really matter...and Elba is awesome so that works.....
2. However, I hate all stunt casting unless it's someone playing themselves or a caricature of something they did in a movie. So if they go for a Bond story that supports finding a new Bond and Elba works, then awesome. But if they say "We have to cast a black man as James Bond next," then no. That's dumb.....
3. But this was cool 5 years ago. Elba was just the right age to take over. At this point Idris is just too damn old, which sucks, UNLESS they go for an "old Bond" type of story, which, given the long form story telling of most modern films, wouldn't work.
4. And I draw the line at Race. Race is not really that pertinent to a Modern Bond ( A a Black James Bond in a 1950s era film would not work). However, sexuality is kind of core to the character. I'd be totally against a gay Bond or any variation there of. And doubly so if it were to "have a gay Bond."
