James Bond Author Says Idris Elba is 'Too Street' to Play James Bond

Anthony Horowitz, in an interview with the Daily Mail, didn’t give Elba a thumbs up approval for the role. Horowitz seems to think Elba is too rough to play the part, even though he called him a terrific actor.
"Idris Elba is a terrific actor, but I can think of other black actors who would do it better," he said.
"For me, Idris Elba is a bit too rough to play the part. It’s not a colour issue. I think he is probably a bit too 'street' for Bond. Is it a question of being suave? Yeah."

Yes. James Bond is not black. Period. Don't care how good of an actor they get. Thats not the point.

Elba is a fantastic actor and has been great in just about everything I've seen him in. He's got the chops to be a serious leading man. But not as James Bond. Making James Bond black is stupid and pandering.

I disagree with Horowitz and I think anyone who's seen Luther knows that Elba can pull off a guy who is not "street." Sounds like Horowitz is caught up on Elba's character in the wire.
That said, he's too old (only 4 years younger than Craig) and he is a bit lumbering. I would prefer David Oyelowo or Ejiofor, and I'm not alone since Oyelowo had already been cast as Bond... In an audio book...

By "street" i think he means he has more of a gangster (which has a much more respectable meaning in British popular culture than it does in the U.S.) feel to him than bond. More of a Guy Richie protagonist than Bond
