Loved it. I've never read the book and I saw the mini series years ago, so I didn't remember the details of the story. I thought it was kind of a mix of Stranger Things and Nightmare on Elm Street. Great characters and development. They did a good job establishing the group of kids and the comradery between them was great. A movie about a goofy clown could easily be a joke, but this was better than anything I could have expected. I'm sure a lot of credit is on Stephen King for the original story, but well done putting it on film. I can't wait for the sequel.

Really enjoyed it. Pun intended

I enjoyed it as well; even though I went into thinking -okay, how many ways can they f this up.
Read the book over 25 years ago and I still remember most of it vividly.
I have a personal rule where I don't see movies made from books I've read. Most of them veer too far from the plot of the book. (The Shining raises its hand)
While this movie left out a lot; this is understandable - It's a dang long book. I didn't think they butchered the material they did cover.
I probabaly would have liked It better had I not read the book.
My husband said it was like an f'ed up Goonies.

I thought the movie IT was great. Obviously there are going to be changes from the source material, but the director made a lot of effort to stay in line with modern updates. Derry was exceptionally recreated--I was especially excited to see the Paul Bunyan statue, but they missed on 29 Neibolt St. I wish they kept closer to the novel on that location.
The chemistry between the Losers was crucial and it made the movie. Richie was hilarious. Bill's stutter was well done (TV series Bill was terrible ). Pennywise was awesome: his delivery and laugh. So creepy.
Yeah...I'm holding out hope that they wanted to keep this as a surprise for Part Two. They did reference the turtle in the swimming scene, but with them excluding the clubhouse and the ritual of Chüd, I'm doubtful the cosmic journey will be in the next movie. Sucks. It would have been so awesome to watch the smoke-hole scene and see the origins of IT on the big screen.

No turtle, no cosmic journey that really gives insight into what IT really is.

That annoyed me. In the book the whole street is run down and abandoned houses. In the movie there are decent looking houses then the worst looking house imaginable

Exactly. and when they're in the house, there was no scene with the environment-altering experience. Plus, the three scary doors was kind of lame since it was comedic. 29 Neibolt St was horrifying in the book.
One other note: they did throw a nod to the book monsters in the battle with IT. Pennywise sprouted spider legs at one point. That was cool.

It lived up to the hype. Been a while since I saw a high budget horror movie I really enjoyed.
Jigsaw could be insane too.
I remember having a Pennywise mask (and a killer klowns from space) and doing the clown thing in haunted house I worked at.
The original I liked the first half, hate the second.
Looking forward to chapter two.
For King fans the book 11/22/63 takes place in this same universe. (Disappearing children every generation, in Derry mentioned in book) Odd trivia

I wanted to see another door opened.
Mike's fear was basically the creepy hands, I kept waiting for burned zombie dad to pop out.
The hypochondriac's terror was creepy, but holy frick the Jewish kid's nightmare will haunt me worse than Tiny Todd's Candyman, that shite was creepy.
The part that got me the most, even to where my wife called me out, was the projector scene. When he just appeared.
Wow.
When he came out the fridge, the way he twisted around was crazy as hell.
The audience flipped when he shot Georgie, that was a crazy scene too.
Props to Bill Skarsgard.
But has anyone mentioned we finally got a tough, grab em by the horns, fat kid. I mean he was "leaking fricking hamburger helper" and took it like a champ. Slash here, carve there, took a beating and was a man. Kissed the girl, wasn't a fat punk. I was impressed.
The kid who played Bill, was great, the stutter as general acting was flawless.
I got everything I wanted from it. It was an enjoyable horror flick that gave me good jump scares.

Never read the book. Only watched the miniseries, and I dont like horror movies.
It scared the living hell out of me. I enjoyed it a lot. The only thing I didnt like was the Stranger Things kid. His humor was so out of place and not funny. I cringed every time he spoke.
Adult Characters:
Stutter Kid-Justin Theroux
Fat Kid-Should be Chris Pratt, but will never happen. Instead, Adam Scott
Not funny joke Kid-Jason Sudeikis
Sick Kid-Giovanni Ribisi
Other "Dead" Kid-Austin Amelio(The Walking Dead/Everybody Wants Some)
Black Kid-Cuba Gooding Jt
Girl-Isla Fisher
"Bad Guy"-Sam Rockwell

I think you're gonna be alone in that opinion. I think he was one of the best parts.

Yes Richie Tozier stole the show.

I enjoyed it.
The black lady in front of me flung herself out of her seat at the part when pennywise got bev in the bathroom.
Really wasn't scary but those movies with jump scares never really freak me out.

I thought the movie was fantastic. I especially enjoyed the NKOTB references. One of the better horror movies and remakes in recent memory. The only part I didn't understand or care for was they made the a-hole kid turn into some demented killer. Didn't think that was necessary. The scene where he murdered his dad, felt to me, like the director didn't feel like enough people were dying and he needed to quench his blood lust.

I saw it last night and loved it. It was a packed theater and some of those folks were really freaking out. I look forward to Chapter 2.

I thought the film was entertaining and accomplished what it set out to do. A solid effort from the cast and crew.

You couldn't have popped onto IMDB and gotten their real character names?
Also, putting Justin Theroux, Jason Sudekis and Cuba Gooding Jr. together in one movie is a guarantee I won't be seeing it.

That's actually straight from the book. It's a turning point for Henry Bowers to go from bully to where IT influences him to kill.

I didn't read the book so that's cool. Nevermind then.
