Maybe, just maybe, the problem isn't a lack of original films. It's that audiences don't WATCH original films.

Agree with this and your entire post. Well said

This might be the best time for summer blockbusters since like the 50s and 60s, but those films are virtually the only thing that gets me to the movies anymore.

There were very few truly Great movies

Are you kidding me? 1994 had four films alone considered among the greatest ever made (Pulp Fiction, The Shawshank Redemption, and Forrest Gump in live action; The Lion King in animation).

There are only a couple of films in discussion for that list that have been made in the last 17 years. And yet in the 90s you had four come out in the same year.

You also have films such as Goodfellas, Beauty and the Beast, Terminator 2: Judgment Day, The Silence of the Lambs, Unforgiven, Schindler's List, The Fugitive, Speed, Apollo 13, Braveheart, Toy Story, Fargo, Jerry Maguire, Good Will Hunting, L.A. Confidential, Titanic, Saving Private Ryan, Toy Story 2, American Beauty, The Green Mile, The Matrix, and The Sixth Sense. And those are just off the top of my head.

In the next couple of months there are movies like A Cure For Wellness, Get Out, Life, and Free Fire coming out. That's 4 original movies that look pretty good coming out by mid-april.

It's a circle jerk. Sure it's a good movie, but give me a fricking break. It's not an instant classic. It's not even in the ballpark of the best film has to offer.

It's not, but what film in the last 10 years has been? Some like "Million Dollar Baby" were just silly.

Hollywood just doesn't make classic blockbusters anymore. They are risky and they can make more money in superhero movies, so they do.

Damn this is pretty meh, man. The last GREAT comedies to come out were Superbad and Knocked Up IMO.

Zombieland is awesome. Bridesmaids was really good. Same with I love you, man =. This is the end, solid. Been a long time since we've had a GREAT one.
