David Brent from The UK Office is way worse than Michael Scott. Matter of fact, all of the principals from that show were far worse off than The American Office versions. Tim is a straight up loser, while Jim is just a slacker. And Gareth is far creepier than Dwight.

I feel like they made deliberate efforts to show how good of a salesman Scott could be when he absolutely had to be. That alone puts him above X amount of characters.

Yes he was a great salesman and ended up married to his dream girl.

Meg and Chris Griffin are both pathetic, if that counts.

Al Bundy is pathetic.

Joey from Full House is pathetic.

Leslie Knope is an awful, manipulative person.

Michael is a man child.

Jim is way more pathetic than he is.

Jim is an average salesman, not even the top in the branch, he turns down at least three major promotion opportunities, including one at corporate, to continue to hit on an engaged secretary with no future, he drops out of a major multimillion dollar sports agency opportunity to go back to being a middle of the pack salesman, he ruins an engagement and then doesn't even go after the chick, he buys his parents house without consulting his wife, he constantly interrupts his office atmosphere to the detriment of that office for no reason, he sends Andy to anger management, he loses multiple sales because he'd rather prank Dwight, the list goes on and on...

He's a pathetic Loser.

Michael Scott was the best salesman in company history, the leader of the branch, ran the best branch in the company, was a loyal friend, stood up for himself on more than one occasion, etc...

Was he pathetic, yes. But I would say him leaving and his return showed us he's ultimately on top of the world. He is one of the best characters in modern television, if not the greatest.

Jim was the epitome of how some people think it's cool to not try, which is itself pathetic.

Whoa. You just made the a great case that Jim is actually the villain of The Office in the same way Mox is the villain of Varsity Blues.

I don't consider him pathetic because he is self-aware of his situation and intentionally tries to be pathetic.

If you want to be pathetic and in fact are pathetic, you're actually succeeding.

Thank you.

The way people used to fawn over Jim made me crazy.
The dude was a smug prick who didn't even try at his job.

God, the episode where he convinces Andy that he hates his own life made him look like such a douche.
Andy was genuinely trying to help him.

this is why Parks and Rec is so much better than the office. The show is just as funny AND every single main character is extremely likable.

What's infuriating is the show went out of its way to show that when Jim applied himself he was highly successful. But he refused to apply himself and even went do far as to actively sabotage himself and those around him.

He might be the biggest price of shite in recent TV history. Props to the writers. They did a great job of capturing personalities on that show.
