Can't believe we were 3 pages in before this was mentioned.

There are more sitcoms on that list than I'll ever watch. But it's a terrible list.
...Especially because Cheers is so low.
And another that really jumped out was how much you like BBT. And Everybody Loves Raymond.

What an awful, awful list. And at the guy who put scrubs as his #1.

No kidding.
ALl in the Family was a game changer.
Nothing like the Meathead and Archie going at it. And then Archie and George Jefferson.
That engagement party was classic.

You almost have to divide comedies by era - you have:
The golden age stuff, Lucy, Honeymooners, Ozzie and Harriet, etc.,
The 60s "rural" era, Andy Griffith, Green Acres, Gilligan, etc.,
The "transitional" era, (notably the duelling family comedies Brady Bunch and Partridge Family), almost a mini-era or spacer,
The "gritty" 70s, somewhat more urban, All in the Family, Sanford, Good Times, Jeffersons, M*A*S*H, Taxi, WKRP, SOAP, etc.,
The 80s, "cheesy" era, epitomized primarily by the main "must see" lineup of Cosby, Cheers, Night Court,
Then the long stretch where Seinfeld and Friends dominated before the modern rebirth of comedy, Modern Family, 2 1/2 Men, BBT, etc.
There are great comedies at every era. Hard to pick 1. Cheers is one of my absolute favorites.

You honestly can't be taken seriously ever again.
You would think deciding which shows you like best are completely objective and everyone should have the exact same list. I did not find Cheers funny.

I found Cheers to be pretty funny but not a show I can watch over and over.
But it doesn't matter what episode it is, if I get home from work early enough and Seinfeld is on TBS I will watch it and then pop in the dvd at night before bed to watch a few more.
Same with The Office (S1-5).

Does Cheers get better or worse when Diane and Coach leave? They are pretty much my favorite characters.
A little worse, but it's still great after they leave. I enjoyed Kirstie Alley's character better than Diane. Diane was such a beatdown wet blanket, but that aspect made her great for the show. The Sam & Diane dynamic was also great, and they tried to replicate it with Kirstie Alley, but it didn't always work.
Woody replaced Coach, and Woody was good, but Coach made that show those early seasons. Woody was more of a bit character to me.
And the Cheers-Seinfeld argument is kind of pointless. Both were great shows, but totally different humor so hard to compare them. It's doubtful Seinfeld would have even survived without Cheers though. It was pretty bad the first 2 seasons, but somehow got the coveted slot either before or after(forget which) Cheers on Thursday night.

I like Cheers and I like Seinfeld. What sets them apart for me is that I will quote and reference Seinfeld in things that happen in my daily life from time to time. I don't do that with Cheers.
Arrested Development is good for this also.

So true. I do this almost daily.

I think that may be part of the draw to Cheers, they don't rely on many one liners. The entire dialogue is funny.
