You should try listening to him. You might learn a thing or two about film sport.

Worst 'Best Picture' film I've ever seen.
That may be. . .but Crash is the worst BP ever. Closely followed by Titanic.

Birdman was not the BP, though.

If I were to hand pick a BP winner, it would have been Still Alice or Boyhood.

Hell, Boyhood should probably have won on sheer achievement.

I disagree. The Other Guys revitalized his career.

I don't know much about films. I don't really know how to gauge films other than:

1) Was the subject matter interesting? Unique?

2) Did it appear to be well made from my amateur perspective?

3) Did it have some entertainment value?

4) Did it make me feel anything?

Whiplash excelled in every area. Birdman was mildly interesting, seemingly well made, mildly entertaining and didn't make me feel much of anything at all.

Chicago

Ugh

That year had:

Far from Heaven
Gangs of NY
The Pianist
Minority Report
Road to Perdition
We Were Soldiers
Death to Smootchy
Undercover Brother (You know what, let me have this one)
One Hour Photo
8 Mile

Not all achievements. . .but all better films than Chicago.

Besides the last 10 minutes or so of Birdman, it was a great movie.

I get the love for Whiplash and others mentioned, but to insinuate that Birdman somehow sucked is beyond dumb.

Whiplash can be watched multiple times and not get old. Birdman was just okay. And got worse as it went. The cinematography was interesting at first but became a distraction and basically a gimmick. And it's been done before even at that length. And it was just tricks anyway. Not one shot.

This is the internet. . .we only deal in extremes.

It can't be good, it is amazing. . .the best of all time

It can't be sort of lacking, it is awful. . . actors should be blacklisted

Even the middle is extreme. If it isn't amazing or awful. . . it is meh.

Millenials. They just suck

Whiplash gets very old IMO. I love the performances from Simmons and Teller, but the story is mediocre at best. Psychopath mentor torments prodigy. The identification people have with this movie still befuddles me.

A more inventive film and just as dark that year was Nightcrawler - not nominated for BP.

Boyhood maybe should have won just based on the scope of the movie. Linklater is an underappreciated, dedicated craftsman.

Imitation Game was also good, but not worthy IMO. Same with Budapest. Theory of Everything was terrible. Sniper was mediocre and I haven't seen Selma.

Made that point a few posts earlier.
