Yeah but this is a "if you had the ability to make any novel a movie" thread.

Jurassic Park, only rated R and not as fricking shitty as the PG version.

Not sure if serious. JP is awesome. I thought when JP first came out it was R at first? Probably a dumb rumor.

Killing Pablo. (Pablo Escobar)

They keep on saying they're going to make the movie. Guess we will wait and see.

One Second After.

I think Warner bought the rights a year or so ago, but don't think they even started any pre-production. If done right, could be an amazing movie.

Would be interesting.

I would go with Perdido Street Station.

Iron Council would be cool, too.

Yeah, I would definitely rather see Perdido Street Station or the Scar made into films of stuff done by China Mieville.

King Rat always struck me as a watered down version of Gaiman's Neverwhere, I wasn't all that impressed. PSS or Scar would have some amazing scenes on film if done right.

The Hyperion Cantos, by Dan Simmons would be epic.

Heard rumors it was in production.

I think it's one of those forever rumored films that never materialized so far due to constant new directors. I kinda have my doubts about how it would turn out even if it does get off the ground. It would need a very good director to be done right. It would be fun to see the Shrike on film.

I would love confederacy of dunces, but I just don't think anybody could do it justice. There are so many plot lines that the movie would have to be 6 hours long, and that would just suck. They would ruin an American classic.

So, my answer is Survivor by Chuck Palahnuik.

The Alienist by Caleb Carr.

Crap, I haven't thought of that book in a long time. Good choice.

Frankly, I'd like to see an adaptation of "What the Dead Know" by Laura Lippman. Two young sisters disappear decades ago and then one reappears in her hometown of Baltimore . . . or does she? Anyway, good book and would make a solid film if written and casteed well.

I agree with everybody saying A Confederacy of Dunces. I've always thought that the Coen Brothers should do it. It's a quirky story and is perfect for them. It's really more dialogue and tongue in cheek humor than it is story. It's like the New Orleans version of Fargo (kinda) - which would be perfect for them. They seem to bring out the best in Goodman as well.

Another idea I would do is take Animal Farm, but instead of using actual animals, convert it to people in a modern day setting (an business, a small town city council, etc.)

I had to read a story in an English lit class at LSU called "Bastard Out of Carolina". I always thought that would make a good movie.
