Always makes me tear up when Karl talks about his burying his brother and then visits the grave on the visit to see his father. Then when he asks John Ritter to watch after the boy. :(

A cool movie connection is Billy Bob and the little kid he befriends in this movie play the Coach and QB in Friday Night Lights.

Now that you've seen Sling Blade, I would advise watching The Apostle next.

Those are the two pillars of 90s Southern Gothic cinema... And both, probably not so coincidentally, feature Billy Bob and Duvall.

They're must watch. The Apostle is not nearly as rewatchable, but it's more powerful.

Friend,

I disagree. The Apostle is great the first time and great the fifth time. I think it was the best movie of the 1990s. I think it is a far better and holds up better than Sling Blade, which is good, but not great.

There is a short out there (I have it somewhere on DVD) that BBT did as a character study prior to doing the movie. It is all set in the nut house. I have never tried to find it in the age of streaming.

I looked the title is "Some folks call it a sling blade" there seem to be copies of it on YT in multiple parts the first one I looked at was poor picture quality but I didn't check them all.

Haven't seen it. Need to remember this and about a dozen other movies I've not seen for such threads that ask for such things. I never can remember the ' popular ' movies that I've not seen.

They also co-starred in All The Pretty Horses.
