Really the only way it would affect me is if a movie I wasn't familiar with was getting incredible reviews...that would make generate a little bit of interest on my end to see what the movie is about.
Exactly. If I don't want to see it, rarely will any reviews or comments here, change my mind.

And like you, if I get pushed by comments to see a movie, it will usually be streamed.

I know what I want to see in the theater.

Agreed. And really that holds true for just any movie that I watch (stream, theater, DVD, whatever)...I know my tastes pretty well (as do most obviously), so I am rarely regretful for watching something. There are some movies that disappoint me, sure, but that's not due to lack of interest on my part. Man of Steel last year was a perfect example...I was waiting for it to come out and amped to go catch it in theaters, and it just fell flat to me and I was disappointed.

I will say that there are times when I have been wrong about not wanting to see something though. For example, I always avoided McGruber because I thought it would be overly stupid, and I'm not a huge Will Forte fan...but I finally broke down and watched it last year based on several peoples' opinions on this board, and I was pleasantly surprised with it and actually liked it.

So just because I know what I'll like and not like doesn't mean I can't be wrong on it from time to time. But it usually means that I don't waste my time watching crap I wouldn't like, and I do a good job most of the time of tempering my expectations going into movies.

I use it as a guide. Like if it gets below a 30 there's no way I'm going to see it in theaters. If it's like 80+ I take that as a solid endorsement. Most of the time I am somewhat in line with their ratings but every once in a while not. They all panned Only God Forgives and I loved it.

i don't always agree, but my tastes are pretty similar to that of the general critical consensus so i usually check it every few weeks.

You're one reason I will eventually watch BSG.

I do feel like a film can have a rating so high that it ceases to be entertaining, I am a bit hesitant of films that rate higher than 95

I know when the reviews are going to be artificially high on RT. Massive budget movies usually get strangely undeserving rankings unless they are just unforgivably bad (Shamalyan since like 2005). Certain directors will get good reviews basically no matter what.

I look at the percentage that the audience reviews gave rather than the critics because a lot of times critics don't know shite.

I tend to read the user reviews more than the critics reviews.

Hell, Grandmas Boy has a 18% critic rating, and an 86% user rating. I laughed my arse off.

watched the Conversation last night . it was like a 98%er. pretty interesting movie but not a greatest of all time suspense type.

Rotten Tomatoes can be misleading because it's just a percentage of how many critics gave a favorable review, not how much they actually enjoyed the film.

For example, I recently watched My Beautiful Laundrette, which has 100% on RT. It was good, but not something that I have much interest of seeing again. On the other hand, there are numerous films in 70/80 percentages that I enjoy much more and feel are more interesting films.

I use it somewhat in determining which movie to see in a theater only because movie tickets are expensive. However, I don't use it at all when renting movies or looking at Netflix, Amazon, etc

this. tix aren't cheap and the good theaters are around me are a hassle with parking and big crowds, so i am very selective about what i see in theater. i rely heavily on rotten tomato.

I'll check out scores from time to time, but I never read reviews before a movie so that it doesn't influence me.
