Good thread, I definitely lied to myself about these films. I was 19 when Ep 1 came out, I remember liking it and raving about it to anyone that would listen. Over time I realized that it's a pretty bad film and it's actually embarrassing to think I actually liked it at one point.

Ep 3 was ok. Ep 2 is one of the worst films I've ever seen. I almost fell asleep in the theatre, I never imagined that would happen watching a star wars film.

Vader didn't kill him - Obi Wan merged with the force. He only sparred with Vader for a few moments to buy the kids time to get in the Falcon.

That scene is better and more impactful than anything in the prequels.

the fighting much better though.

But, yeah, fakey, cartoonish CGI with an incomprehensible, emotionally bankrupt story - frick YEAH!

Pretty awesome moment actually.

It's always bothered me that in the opening scenes of Star Wars they let the escape pod with C3PO and R2D2 go because their scanners detected no life forms, then when the Millenium Falcon gets pulled into the Death Star via tractor beam, they don't bother scanning for life forms?

Did I miss something there?

In this case, Star Wars was never the same after the Ewoks - it was clear as day.

I have found that peoples opinions of the Ewoks defer greatly according to age. I was 6 when it came out and loved the Ewoks then and I love the Ewoks now. I am not ashamed.

Episode 1 I was in denial. "It's not THAT bad"

Episode 2 I couldn't believe it. "I mean this is pretty bad but it is still Star Wars"

Episode 3 I said well this is somewhat better.

And then I watched them all again and thought "My fricking god"

There is a scene in Episode 2 that sums up everything wrong with the Prequels:

When Natalie Portman comes in a CGI transporter, and lands on a CGI planet and talks to a fricking CGI Stormtrooper and she runs off with CGI Stormtrooper. And then CGI Yoda tells a CGI Stormtrooper "Around the survivors a perimeter create"

EVERYTHING that is wrong with the prequels. Couldn't they have filmed it on a practical set, with a real transport, and real guys in fricking Clonetrooper outfits? fricking ridiculous.

It wasn't explicit, but I always assumed that the Falcon being a smuggling ship, it was designed to resist scanning. I think troopers went on board with scanning equipment, in addition to a physical search, and couldn't find them.

The thing about great movies with great stories is that things like this don't ruin it. Virtually everything about the prequels was bad. I had a sense of nostalgia, but that's about it.

Maybe so, but didn't Han say that he'd never smuggled people before?

I also thought that maybe it was part of the long con to track them to the rebel base, but it seems like they would have taken them prisoner and tried the same methods they used on Leia first.

I could see, in 20 years or so, especially after Lucas passes, Disney saying: We are re-doing the prequels.

Starting with Anakin already an apprentice and mostly grown, a more believable fall to the darkside, and established relationship with Luke/Leia's mother before he falls, and then a longer segment on the purge, etc.

I'm all for rewriting history in this case. Especially if Padme doesn't die from a broken heart. How fracking stupid was this? At least have her body ravaged from dark side bolts with the kids still ok. A broken heart? Someone at Lucas Farms should have kicked him in the balls.

EP 1 Darth Maul kept the story moving. I hated the pod races and pretty much every scene with young anakin in it. I actually like Jar Jar far more then that twit of an actor.

And I kind of thought the battle between the droids and the gungans was cool in the theatre.

EP 2 The fact that the only thing I really remember about this was Natalie Portman's top getting torn by a whip at the perfect place to show off her figure says a lot. Oh and Jedis, I remember a lot of them fighting.

EP 3 I really think this was underrated. Yes we had the zombie acting by Hayden Christian (and Natalie Portman) but the overall story was pretty good and the epic Jedi battle between Vader (his new name) and Obi-wan was damn good, though I could of used less lava. I did however not understand why the hell Obi-wan did not put his poor friend and apprentice out of his misery.

Leaving him legless and burned to a crisp but alive was some cold shite.

At that point I think they would just redo the whole series.
