I don't think the name of the show has to have that much of an effect on the show. You might be right, though. I hope not. Hopefully, it won't be too brief. Some closure would be nice.

Right.

Just because it's Ted meeting her for the first time, doesn't mean we the audience can't meet her earlier.
Food for thought.

But that's the whole point of the show, not just the name.

Because I want closure from the show and I don't think that would provide it for me. I get that's the name of the show but shows develop as they grow.

It's been a long series and I don't think saying "this is her"... SHOW OVER... would do the series justice. I think viewers will want more of a connection to her character rather than just him telling stories and then seeing her face.

Great point. All I'm saying is people will want to get to know her character and personality.

Not just, this is the lady and we're out.

After all the relationships and false starts, they have to let us see some of why this one works for Ted. Just a "happily ever after" once they meet is awful after putting out mostly awful stuff with Zooey and Stella

I could see them doing a "Future Montage" like in the Scrubs finale of them dating/marrying/having kids, but I really don't think they will do a whole season or even more episodes once it is revealed who the mother is.

Back on topic about when we should find out who the mom is. The last episode fast forwarded to April 2015 (Typically the show is based in the same time as the actual date and they watch the trilogy the same month every 3 yrs. This is an assumption on my part but I think it seems very reasonable that I am correct).

Longest scenario IMO

The baby looks a few months old so lets say she was born in January of 2015.Subtract 9 months brings us to around April 2014.

Now I am going to make the assumption that Ted was married to this girl before they got preggos. I will be conservative and say they got pregnant 1-2 months after being married. That would put us in early 2014. Lets say they only dated for a very short time before getting married that would put us in the Fall of 2013. IMO, the longest the show could go would be Oct/Nov of 2013.

Thoughts???

Isn't it pretty widely known that next year is the last season?

Agreed. We've seen too much of Ted's other relationships to not get a few details of this one.

It doesn't have to be a whole season, but, a few episodes would be nice.

Came out of hiding marie? I thought you retired after 2000 posts??

I kind of with that they would slip in the mother into the plot line secretly somehow... like maybe she appears on an episode and has a brief role/series of lines... and then later on Saget is saying "remember when I told you about that random girl so and so... well that is your mother."

Like kind of come back to a character that we had seen before but forgot about.

It was 5000. I tend to stay on the f&d and this board. I'm a working woman now so it's easier to post rather than when I was finishing up grad school and working.

Let's assume we have already met their mother, and so has Ted. He has never said that they have not met up until this point. The story is how I met your mother, not when I met your mother. I believe the mother is already a character, even if it's not who I'm thinking it is, I think she has already had a pretty big enough role, to where we as an audience know about her and Ted's existing relationship. This way when they reveal her, they don't need to continue with a season to show us their relationship, because we already know her.

If we assume this let's hear your nominations for their mother.

Mine: And I jump back and forth on this every week, but I still believe it is true even though currently many of the signs say no way. But there are enough hints that it is her.

For it to be anyone we know, the narrator/Ted would need to be a complete liar.

We know she was in the classroom when Ted was teaching the wrong class. We know she was Rachel Bilson's roommate. Among other things.

Its someone we don't know. In fact, its almost certainly Barney's half-sister.

What about the thing where she was in his class when he mistakenly was teaching the econ class?

And the fact that Saget said she was Rachel Bilson's roommate?

I know, and I know I'm probably wrong, but I just can't shake the fact that I believe it is Robin for some reason. I really don't know why. I guess I just think those are all plot twists that Ted will later explain that he did not tell them before for fear of revealing her to the kids, before they got the whole story.

Well, he always directly refers to her as Aunt Robin to the kids...

Not only is she called Robin, but its specifically said that she can't have kids and that she travels the world for awhile.

There is no way its Robin unless the narrator has completely lied this entire time.

What if the mother is a surrogate? That way the "met the mother" part could be meeting the surrogate for having their kids

Its not Robin.

There could've been a mistake with her pregnancy capability tests, also she was an anchor in Tokyo for a while, that could've been the extent of her traveling the world.

As for him referring to her as Aunt Robin, this could be a story telling tactic to teach the kids about their mother before revealing who she is. If he did not call her Aunt Robin they could figure out it was her when he told them that their mother visited his class. Ted has had multiple women attend his class, including "Aunt" Robin.

That would really cheapen the show, and I also don't think it would fit with Ted's character. If Robin was their biological mother, in that she provided the eggs, I would think Ted would go through great lengths to make sure that Robin is always referred to as the mother and the surrogate as the surrogate. Calling Robin "Aunt Robin" also doesn't fit because she is actually their mother. It would really belittle Robin to call everyone by their titles in your scenario.
