Would be hard to get Omar back

To Ace above, this is copied from a previos thread.

Its a stupid slideshow but it has what plenty of them are doing now.

I knew some them had new shows. Omar I noticed had a big role in a new show.

I first watched The Wire in late 2010 at the insistence of a few friends of mine. One in particular warned me about taking a while to warm up to the opening episodes and advised me to use subtitles.

I agree that the first few (three, maybe four) are a little slow, and the first episode in particular feels really different from the rest of the series (as it tends to go, really) but I didn't find it a chore at all. I have had MUCH harder times getting into a series than The Wire.

The subtitle advice (first time through anyway) was pretty sound.

Love the show, and Omar is my favorite character... With that said, I clicked the link because I thought the salon "Supercuts" had made a commercial using Omar. Needless to say I was a little let down.

I personally couldn't get super into it. Now, I'm not saying it's bad or it sucks in any way at all. Just to ME I didn't really love it. The pacing of every episode and every season of the whole series is about like the 1st episode for the most part. Very, very slow. And that's not necessarily a bad thing, I'm just letting you know. The writing is fantastic and is probably one of the most true to life shows out there involving the drug trade. DSimon had a lot of background in that area and it shows. If that kind of thing is right up your alley you'll probably love the hell out of it.

Pretty much my take. I'm just not very interested in that genre.

Like 90 percent of the people in that slideshow are doing bit time work. They would jump at the chance to come back to HBO and the limelight

They flowered up the wording on a lot of those captions. Lot of cancelled shows and networks you've never heard of. Being an active actor doesn't mean you don't have time to do more work

I'm watching it now, on episode 4 of season 3. Season one started great, got a little slow, then picked up. I thought season 2 was pretty good overall (apparently that is not general consensus). 3 seems like it's going to be great. I've heard 4 is one of the best seasons of any tv show ever. And I'm lowering expectations for 5.

They do a great job continuing to develop the characters while introducing new ones. You just know that at some point everything will come full circle and it's going to be awesome.

there's a difference in "one of the 5 best shows I've seen" and "it is the best show ever created"

If it can contend with the top 5 shows of all time in majority of anyone's opinion, it is certainly not overhyped. Given that there are over hundreds of thousand television shows.

I don't like breaking bad but I'm not going to say it's overhyped, it just isn't my cup of tea.

This thread seems to have more wire naysayers then I've seen in any other wire thread combined.

Does the show not hold up well? Have a bunch of you tried watching it recently and it just doesn't work as much any more?

I tried rewatching sopranos s1 and found that to be the case.

There was just a long rewatch thread on here not too long ago, it definetely holds up well. While some really believe their opinions, others are just trying to be "edgy".

Just started watching the first episode. Not sure how I'll like it. Seems like it has a lot of good actors in it.

I started watching it a couple of times and never made it past the second episode. A bunch of folks on here suggested that I get past the 3rd or 4th episode before dropping the series completely...they were right.

I'd rank it in the top 5 of TV series of all time.

Bruh...

And where the hell were all you assholes for the rewatch?

Speaking of which, nobody ever went back and finished the S5 discussions. I may have to bump that thread soon.

As for the OP, It's my #1 show of all time. And someone nailed it when they said that you don't even realize how awesome it is until you're finished with it and it hits you that you've seen something special. It's television entertainment at its finest, and is the best show I have ever seen. I'd recommend it to just about anybody interested in a good show to watch.

As for the person asking how long it takes to get into it, generally it doesn't take too long to know if The Wire is for you or not. But most people seem to agree that the chess scene is about the point where people get hooked. And that's in S1E3 (The Buys).

The wire is my #1 goat, but I don't get why people say it takes about midway into the first season before it gets good.

It seemed to me the first episode cut right to the chase and they didn't waste any time.

Right? I don't get it. I really enjoyed season 2. There are fanatics of the show who despise that season. I thought it was great.
