How good is The Wire?

Just started watching the first episode. Not sure how I'll like it. Seems like it has a lot of good actors in it.

Definite GOAT candidate - and in same league with GoT, Sopranos, Breaking Bad, The Shield over the past 15 or so years.

Most will tell you it's the best show of all time, or at worst a top 3 show ever.
I personally couldn't get super into it. Now, I'm not saying it's bad or it sucks in any way at all. Just to ME I didn't really love it. The pacing of every episode and every season of the whole series is about like the 1st episode for the most part. Very, very slow. And that's not necessarily a bad thing, I'm just letting you know. The writing is fantastic and is probably one of the most true to life shows out there involving the drug trade. DSimon had a lot of background in that area and it shows. If that kind of thing is right up your alley you'll probably love the hell out of it.

I just started watching it recently myself, just finished the first season. It's lived up to the hype so far. Michael K Williams, Idris Elba, and Lance Reddick are outstanding as they usually are.

It's damn good. Season 2 will seem slow at first but it's the foundation for a lot of what happens later.
Season 5 is kind of meh but I think they rushed a lot of things.

Definitely a great series. Season 1 was my favorite. Season 3 had one of my favorite scenes, big payoff (no spoils). Omar is one of my favorite characters from any show

I just finished it. It was great. Felt like a true portrayal of its premises. Most of the storylines, while exciting, seen believable which I enjoyed much more than Breaking Bad.
