Jaime - simply one of the most complex and interesting characters in literary fiction. I never get tired of his chapters.
Jaime is my favorite character for sure. Even the Bran thing, what would you have done if you were caught in that situation? You would immediately realize that a 7 year old no matter what you told him was likely to tell his parents about what he saw, which would mean the deaths of you, your lover, your children, and possibly your brother. You would also realize thousands of men would be killed in the war that would ensue. If I were in Jaime's situation, I'd unfortunately probably do the same thing.

Agree and the really interesting parallel is him and Tyrion. Tyrion already starts off with a major "flaw" - obviously. Jaime acquires his fairly early in the narrative. Not to be outdone, Tyrion gets half his face cut off (something that isn't truly appreciated in the show - Dinklage has done so well with the character that we've ignored the fact that Tyrion was supposed to be repulsive even before Blackwater.)
How each's true character emerges under stress, and just how many pages that Martin devotes to those 2 brothers belies how important the Starks are perceived in the overarching story. The few internal Stark conflicts have been popcorn farts compared to those between and among Tywin and his children.

quote:What was that crazy 1st person shooter movie, Hardcore Henry? Remember he had the guy that could take over all those different bodies.
The potential to ride is still there with Tyrion's saddle design, but there seems little reason for him to ride if he can warg into a dragon as he did Summer.
That guy got killed because his original host body was killed.
Bran may have to protect his own body at some point, instead of just warging. If the shite is truly hitting the fan, strapped to a dragon might be the safest place for him to be.

Bout damn time. Preston Jacobs released probably his worst GOT video yet yesterday and is getting lots of backlash. Basically he answers a question about the themes of the story, one of which is obviously feminism. That is all fine and dandy, but his angle he takes in his video comes off as extremely pretentious and demeaning (i.e. saying "85% of my viewer base is male, so I will probably get some backlash, but screw it, it's my channel, and I'm a feminist"). I was already on the fence about him due to his outrageous theories and annoying voice, but this video was annoying af and I just can't watch him anymore. if you want a good laugh, someone posted a link to his wedding website on reddit, and it has some pretty hilarious photos. Guy is totally pussy whipped.

I just don't see how they only have 8 episodes left. I mean there just seems like there's a lot of story left.
Is there really? Have 4-5 episodes of the big battles remaining and 3 to take care of everything else. Also some of these episodes are longer
There are only 3 factions now (with some mercs mixed in) and the white walkers. That is a lot less than when we had to go through 8 storylines an episode

Does the winter affect Essos as much as Westeros?
Posted on 8/11/17 at 10:21 am to J Murdah
Probably not though Essos had its own version of the Long Night.

I think it's highly unlikely we'll see anything about Essos again in the show.

I don't think we will either

Westeros is facing a nuclear winter, but Essos could be facing a period of growth and prosperity.
Dany broke the slaving stranglehold on the continent, removed the threat of the Dothraki raiding every civilized city, and took the dragons away too.
Daario now sits in charge of a nice little kingdom in the Bay of Dragons, with both sea and overland potential to trade with the various Free Cities.
The question, if you want to view it as a history text instead of a novel, is if the Night King can also invade Essos, or if he even wants to (or just cleanse Westeros of both Men and the Children). In theory, you have an ice continent in the West that is off-limits, and a forward-thinking Essos.

2 years until the last season comes out
It would be some shite if they pulled a GRRM and never released it. HBO would cease to exist.

I have no doubt that they would if they did take over westeros
at that point the world is over as they have hundredsof thousands/millions of wights, giants, and 3 Dragons and Essos has an un-unified population, no dragons, and no clue what is happening in the west.
Unless the WWs have eyes for only that continent. But i doubt it since the long Night affected Essos just as much if not more

Think about it though, the Starks have very strong family binds. Ned and Catelyn had a strong relationship and they all were pretty honorable, due to how they were raised. Tywin taught them to be ruthless, Ned taught them to be honorable. So it isn't a surprise that the Starks don't have many problems within the family and the Lannisters do.
Also, the Lannisters have been in close proximity to each other, most of the Starks have no idea where the rest of the Starks are.

I see Drogon stopping short of eating Jon Snow and sniffing him instead, and then Jon walking up to Drogon and giving him a chin scratching like a puppy establishing his Targ blood.

I wonder, was Jon a little too short-sighted and emotional when he killed Ramsay?
I hated Ramsay. I cheered when he died. I cheered how he died. He's at the top of the list of MFs you never, ever, ever trust.
But we're talking the fate of mankind here, and Jon knows that.
Tell me that if the Wall is breached, you don't think Ramsay wouldn't be a HUGE asset in the resistance. He was one of the boldest, most creative and fearless plotters in the story.
You could interrogate him in his cell ala Silence of the Lambs, creating horrible but effective roadblocks to slow the advance.
