Mrs. Forkbeard will be out of town Thurs-Sun and I've been in the mood for some horror movies recently. What are some (preferably on NetFlix) that you'd recommend.

Some horror movies I have really liked are The Exorcist, The Strangers, The Witch, Halloween. I'm not really big on the gore/Saw type movies.

It was hot garbage, but I felt like it knew what it was. It didn't try to be anything more or less. I actually enjoyed it.

I really liked It Follows. It isn't on Netflix, but it's good.

1408 is a good one to watch by yourself late at night.

Go old school and watch Jacob's Ladder. It'll do the trick.

Or better yet, Funny Games would be perfect for a weekend at home by yourself.

We're literally settling in to watch that right now (vacation is nice.) I hope it's good. The wife likes horror movies well enough, but she prefers to be disturbed rather than grossed-out. To be honest, so do I.

Edit: We just finished. It wasn't bad at all. Had a couple problems with it that would require spoilers to explain, but I liked the rough-around-the-edges Euro-auteur vibe (though it appears to be an American film) that worked quite well with the subject matter. As a viewing experience for a horror movie weekend, I'd be comfortable recommending it just so long as you can overlook a couple WTF-type issues and don't mind a slow burn type horror. It's the atmosphere and cinematography that really make the film go.

I haven't seen Kill List yet but I really want to. Reviews are mixed.

Just how good is Kill List?

Yes to things like the Conjuring, It Follows, etc. The Others just hit Amazon if you've never seen it.

I want to let the OP know that It Follows is overrated a good bit on this board. It's good, but that's about it. I don't want his expectations to be too high.

I will echo House of the Devil. Very slow-burning and creepy, and is a solid throwback to old school horror movies.

I have We Are Still Here on my list. May need to check that out soon. And I haven't heard much about Kill List. What's the story on that one? May check that one out as well.
