Okay, it's pretty much all been said--we know what's wrong with the movie. Sofia Coppola's casting, and don't forget George Hamilton replacing Robert Duvall as Consigliere. Hamilton was already a joke for his "tan"--he didn't bring the requisite seriousness to that role.
Things I loved about the movie:
--the link to actual history in how they worked in the actual quick death of a pope and tied it in to the story
--the final opera scene--all the deaths and drama taking place while the music and story played out.
--Making Joey Zasa's character into a John Gotti type, also a current news story
--the death of Mary after the opera (c'mon, after her sucky acting we ALL had to enjoy this, right?). Al Pacino's silent screamed that eventually was heard, along with the family's response to his reaction, is priceless.
--the death years later of Michael, slumping out of the chair--alone in his small place in Sicily. Vito was loved and died playing in the garden with his grandson--Michael lost his family. Perfect ending, IMO.

It's so bad that I couldn't even finish watching it.
