Finished Friday Night Lights...Confused About A Plot Point In Final Episodes

Finished watching Friday Night Lights this past weekend and what a great show that was. It had it's issues, namely Season 2 and any scene with Julie Taylor, but overall a really great show.
I am confused about a plot point in the final season though. Billy Riggins decides to start the chop shop. Tim finds out, tells Billy he's an idiot, but decides to get involved so he can earn the money for his acreage. So both brothers ARE involved in this illegal business.
Cops find out and Tim, of his own accord, decides to take full blame. He says he wants the unborn kid to have a father yada yada yada. Billy did not ask Tim to do this. This was 100% Tim's idea and Billy didn't want to do it at first, but he ultimately agrees. So Tim goes to prison for the chop shop.
While Tim is in prison, Billy begins coaching with Coach for the East Dillon Lions. Everything seems great. No mention of any troubles, monetary or otherwise.
Final 2 or 3 EPS, Tim gets out of prison and he's pisssd at Billy. He keeps bringing up that he went to jail for Billy. They then show Billy shitfaced at the strip club and allude to a drinking problem, money problems etc. All comes out of nowhere.
I'm also not sure why Tim is pissed at Billy. Taking the blame was his idea 100%. The final episodes turned the great Tim Riggins into a whiny little bitch IMO. It kind of pissed me off and left me scratching my head.

Prison changes a person. It may have seemed like a noble thing to do when it was theoretical. Spend some time there, you are bitter, etc.

I just want to reiterate how badly coach Taylor fricked saracen over. Saracen got the absolute shite end of the stick and it was completely undeserved. He loses his spot midway through his senior fricking year after starting the previous 2 years and winning state all because he lost one fricking game where he was getting destroyed and STILL made a great play to win the game. But since he fumbles the ball, loses one game midway through his senior year, he loses his spot to a freshman? I would have quit the team on the spot and he should have

Don't forget about Coach Taylor's duaghter, who is a whore btw. I say Saracen should have boned the mom after Julie cheated with the Swede. Then Lyla and Tyra would start lezzing out for like no reason. My only quarrel of the series I cannot get over is how Riggins was a full blown alcoholic already by his sophomore year of high school.

This right here. And Julie gets a pass. That guy was Swedish!

But the whole time Tim was in jail, Billy did have his shite together. He was coaching, stated on several occasions Riggins Rigs was doing well, was a great father, a mentor to Luke, takes in Becky and is a good husband.
It's not until Tim gets out of jail that it seems like all of a sudden he's a drunk and his finances are messed up. Seemed contrived to me.
Still wish Tim wouldn't have started whining about doing that whole 6 or 7 months in jail since it was his stupid idea in the first place. Also, he acts like he had no part in the chop shop. It's what paid for his beloved land.
Weak plot point aside, it was a great show and I was sad when it ended.
They need more shows on TV like FNL.

As someone who cane from a small town very much like Dillon, most of my friends were raging alcoholics by the time they were sophomores. It's not that unrealistic.

I just want Mrs. Coach Taylor from Season 1 to be my forever wife.

Tim and his brother Billy open an autobody shop, "Riggins' Rigs," but business is very slow. With pressure mounting on Billy to provide for his pregnant wife, he agrees to turn his shop into a chop shop to earn more money. After Tim discovers Billy's secret operation, which he opposes, he agrees to help out to make enough money to buy a plot of land he had set his eyes on. He makes enough money to buy that land; however, the police discover their scheme and arrest Tim, the only person who had been in the shop that night. In the season four finale, "Thanksgiving," realizing that his brother needs to stay and provide for his wife and newborn baby, he turns himself in to the sheriff's office and takes full responsibility for the chop shop.
In season 5, Tim appears in the first episode with only 3 months left to serve thanks to good behavior. He isn't seen again until the last 3 episodes when he is let out. He struggles readjusting to everyday life and is angry at Billy and holds it over his head he went to prison for him. Prison clearly changed, Tim as he is much more quiet and angry then he use to be. He gets a job at Buddy's new bar but says he wants to go to Alaska to work. His old girlfriend Tyra comes back into town and helps convince him to stay. They seem to pick up their old relationship as well. The series ends showing Tim and Billy building a house on Tim's land which is something he always wanted to do. He says Texas forever to Billy which was always his motto as he said the same thing to Jason in the first episode.

quote:there is no way the writers originally intended that Tim and lyla were to be sophomores in season one.

And where is Santiago?

I grew up in the NW Houston 'burbs and this is definitely real life. I can name several.
Buuuut, as alluded to above, it isn't clear that they ARE sophomores in Season 1. That year is defined as his sophomore year LATER in the series once the show caught on and the writers decided they needed to milk those characters for as long as possible.
