Wow, what a ride. I was definitely hoping for a happy ending just for the sake of how into the characters I was. My favorite character by far being Jimmy, he was so fricked up but dedicated to his work. I dislike how they screwed him after dismantling the MCU after a year on the Stanfield case. Omar coming in a close second as my other favorite character.

The character I hated the most was Herc. He just rubbed me the wrong way the entire time.

I'm watching it for the first time as well and just finished season 1. When Omar come strolling down the street, whistling The Farmer and the Dell with a sawed off shotgun in his hand.... I mean that shite is just so awesome!

I found that once I finished the series (watched it about two years ago), I kept finding myself thinking about it a lot.

And my favorite character was prolly Cutty. Least favorite were Naymond, Cheese, and Snoop. Naymond Brice I wanted to punch in the face.

I didn't like Herc either. He was dumb and a dick but not bad enough to really despise.

I hated Naymond too.

The development of Prezbo from season one to season five was pretty unbelievable too (far fetched).

ETA: Avon was my favorite of the gangters. Bey was great too... Gif will live forever...

Its always funny that on a show often celebrated for its realism, its most popular character(Omar) was easily the least realistic.

Its even more unrealistic that Donnie Andrews, the real life stick-up man that Omar was based on, died in 2012, at 58 years old, from natural causes.

A lot of what he did on the show was supposedly true, including the jumping off the balcony thing.

I'm sure some was embellished, but most of it is based off of shite that really happened.

Ah.

The whistling and "Omar coming" stuff always seemed made for tv

Slim Charles, and Brother Mouzone if he counts.

Also his helper Lamar is underrated.

Brother Mouzone: You're the perfect bait, Lamar. They'll see you as conflicted, your homophobia is so visceral.
Lamar: You see that. I ain't even stepped inside the joint yet and you're calling me a cocksucker already.

The cop with the SUPER New Iberia haircut is the worst. I loved Wee Bey, Bunk and Lester Motherfrickin Freeman. I liked most of the characters. I actually got upset when some of them died (Wallace, Bodie) or ended up getting swallowed up by the game (Michael, Dookie).

This.

I have enjoyed and rewatched other series more than the wire, but I put this series up in my top 3 because the staying power in my head is unbelievable. Really a great series that made you think.
Oh, and Stringer Bell was my favorite

Nobody has mentioned Bubbles yet. One of the best acting performances I've ever seen. He had a great story line too. Full of emotion.
