I dunno, maybe they rush those into production to fill the void.

They said they aren't going to rush it and it will be a while.

Also, any prequel spinoff won't be for a while after that, it seems. I'm okay with that, though.
I'm really hoping they do a prequel so I can get to see that sweet MF'er Rhaegar the Great. I really wanna see how all that great drama plays out between him and the Baratheons.

You've read A Feast for Crows.

I liked that book, a lot.

It wasn't about war or the glamorous victories and defeats that make headlines. It was about how shitty life is afterwards for people who have to resume what's left of life after all the assholes are done fighting. At its heart, this series is about the futility of war not the drama of it, and that was never more clear than in feast.

Seriously, do the producers of hit shows sit around and try to think of ways to screw up?

"hey guys, we have the hottest show going now, in a country with a 5 minute attention span. Let's see how long it takes for the viewers to give up and move on, before we show another season. One and a half years? Two? I know, let's just put out trailers with potential new stars, and never film any episodes..."

I don't know the reasons behind the delay, but the world will wait for the end of this show and that also gives them more time to get the spinoffs set up. From a business perspective the delay could be for the benefit of the spinoffs alone. End GOT next summer and have a year break between the spinoff and maybe you lose half the audience or more. Make the spinoff seem like the next season and most GOT fans and more importantly, HBO subscribers, will probably keep their subscription active another year to give it a chance.

I don't know, maybe the producers sit around and think, we've filmed one of the greatest shows to ever air on television so far, lets make sure we stick the landing, even if that means a slight delay.

No one likes the long breaks, but if taking their time gives us more episodes like BOTB and WOW, I'm all for it.

Is Season 8 an epilog set some time after Season 7? You lose a lot of series momentum with the long breaks between seasons.

That sounds all nice and reasonable. But a year and a half to do 6 episodes seems kind of extreme.

Plus, I'm not sure that these kinds of delays usually pay off in higher quality. Wasn't it Battlestar Galactica that had long gaps? Because that show definitely did not get better as it went along IMHO.

Apparently they're still working on the scripts. I assume that would explain the delay.

What I'm worried about is when in 2019 will it air? Is it going to be January? Or since they're late this year, are they going to want to shoot some in winter of 2018/2019 and looking at a later release date for season 8?

Maybe GRRM has been trolling the world, and is going to hit us with a double-book release in 2018, ending the book series before the tv series, and the universe will smile on us all, and then lol because he's never going to finish it.

Martin hates his fans more than Lucas does. He wouldn't do that.

I'm thinking part of the delay could be waiting further into winter to film. This past year they filmed October-February so it's likely that for S8 they may wait until November and film through March and probably film more in Iceland than in Spain.
