I think because Strand has something far more grand (and possibly sinister) planned and he needs a lackey who will be loyal to him and carry out some of the dirty work.

He chose him because being a drug addict, Nick could be controlled easily and I'm curious how this relationship will play out in Season 2

What if this show is called Fear the Walking Dead because this group turns into an evil group that should be feared.

Where the Walking Dead is a group that is noble and has good intentions????

Strand could very well make them a pirate gang of the Pacific and take them up to San Francisco or down to Mexico and wreak havoc!

One of the writers was on Talking Dead after the show and he said the whole "on the water" idea came in the writers room and they just kind of went from there. He mentioned that the really like the story line of this group not being the only group to have the idea to get on a boat in open water and they plan on exploring it further.

On Talking Dead, I also learned that Ruben Blades, who plays Daniel the barber, is a grammy winning latin jazz dude, has a LLM in International Law from Harvard, and once ran for president of Panama.

And junky kid is the son of the guy who played Stannis Baratheon.

Excellent episode and love the story lines. Can't wait to see how the whole yacht survival method plays out with resources being limited.

Suit seems sketchy to me and def. isn't what he seems. He had an exit strategy already in an area where that kind of thing isn't prevalent. My bet is he's some kind of high stakes criminal of some kind; drugs/weapons or something along those lines.

When Trav killed his ex, I looked at my wife and asked, "does that make or break him," she says make!

Some people on the AMC board are calling him "Travrick."

Easy now. Travis has a long ways to go to get to the bada$$ level that Rick Grimes is at right now. I'm not even sure I like Travis yet. He's still soft. If I have one compalint with his character is that the previous episodes should have pushed his character closer to bada$$ level. He was a softy pacifist the entire series, even letting the soldier free thyis episode which came back to haunt them, up until the point he went all fists of fury on him. Then he has the ability to put his ex-wife down. Too quick of a transformation. He's not there yet.

Daniel, yeah, stone cold.

If the ZA brings out the worst in humanity what is it going to bring out in Daniel, who has already sunk to some deep depths in his life? Or will he be all BAU, been there done that, and he is mentally ready to handle what the ZA can dish out?

Is this even a question still? He fricking half skinned a guy alive already. I'm not sure there's a lot worse to bring out of him.

I think he's exactly what he seems, I certainly got the vibe that he'd sell people out at any given moment. When he talked about the kid's neighborhood and gentrifying it that made me think he might be in real estate development. Definitely a cut throat big business type and I assume he'll turn into a threat to the group at some point because he'll sell them out.

To be honest, I think letting the soldier go was a calculated risk. The main risk was that guy would alert the other soldiers and they would detain or eliminate Travis' group. But since the soldiers were all getting the hell out of dodge that risk wasn't that great.

I don't think that there was a very good chance at all that the soldier would have actually gone to the hospital and skulked in the shadows to shoot Ophelia (or even Daniel). That is a total zombie show/movie thing. Really that guy would have gotten the hell out of dodge as fast as he could, likely hooking up with a couple of other soldiers or other people.

And really, even in show/movie logic, the risk to Travis and those he loves wasn't that great. To the extent he went after anyone it would have likely been Daniel. Which would have freed Travis of a wild card. Even shooting Ophelia didn't really hurt Travis any.

Enjoyed the season and loved the finale. Really excited that their are two ways to enjoy this world now. Hoping they stagger them to where we get Walking Dead practically year round.

Well this season certainly ended with a bang :rimshot:

Strand strikes me as FTWD's version of Daryl, but without the redneck loner aspect.

Travrick finally allowed himself to see the world for the new reality that it is. Had he not had that moment beating the soldier's arse, he never would have been able to pull that trigger.

Damned fine season finale

Strand could be

Connected to the CDC
Connected to government (cia)
International terrorist organization

Somehow he knew what was coming and prepared. He is either involved or knows who is involved.

I view Strand as a "prepper". Not a crazy loon prepper but someone who sees humanity for what it is and knew society could crumble at some point. Don't think he imagined it would be the dead coming to life, but he knew, or was prepared, for society's downfall.

I think Strand is some sort of criminal element that had an escape plan in case he had to run.

That's a bit of a reach. Dude is wealthy and owns a yacht. People don't own yachts just to cruise around the bay, they own yachts so that they can sail to other destinations. Having a well supplied yacht doesn't seem odd at all.

What is odd is his seeming willingness to take on such a large group. That will put a dent in supplies pretty quickly, but maybe he plans to put them to work. Especially if the military forced everybody into inland neighborhoods, there might be good access to supplies scavenging the coastline.

Well if it wouldn't have been for the group, he would have been eaten in the hospital hallway, so maybe he feels a little like he owes them.

And definitely like he can use them.

Finished yesterday. Great stuff all around. "Not enough episodes," for sure, as I feel there was a lot left to unpack. More of Travis transformation. Strand. I thought they'd keep Hatosy around for awhile. Boooo to that.
