My avatar should give it away, but just for added fun: the film has to be in its original language.

Bad News Bears

Such an under rated movie....way more important than just a kid's baseball flick.

1970's were just golden though when it comes to movies...could list a ton.

Close Encounters

Heaven Can Wait is a great sports movie that made me think of Oh God for a little more Teri Garr.

Any foreign films?

Le Charme Discret de la Bourgeoisie (The Discreet Charm of the Bourgeoisie) (1972) is a genius film, the likes of which had never really been done before.

The 70s had several lengendary movies, can't pick a favorite. Francis Ford Coppola killed it in the 70s: Godfather I and II, Apocalypse Now, The Conversation. Scorsese had Mean Streets and Taxi Driver. Kubrick had A Clockwork Orange and Barry Lyndon. Sam Peckinpah had Straw Dogs and Bring Me the Head of Alfredo Garcio. Alejandro Jodorowsky is legend because of El Topo and The Holy Mountain. Oh and of course Aguirre, the Wrath of God.

So make your own list. I made mine a couple of years ago. Saw every one of them in the theater when they came out and have my reason's for including each. Started with a much larger list and cut it down. Deliverance & Apocalypse Now made it pretty far when I was making it.

My 20 Faves of the 1970s

The Exorcist
American Graffiti
Jaws
One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest
The Godfather/Godfather 2
Scrooge
Chinatown
Patton
National Lampoon’s Animal House
Star Wars
Alien
Rocky
Halloween
Close Encounters
M*A*S*H
Deliverance
The Sting
Salem's Lot (TV movie)
Don't Look Now
Carrie

Saw each one at the real movies! Lottsa popcorn and cokes in those days. Oh, and milk duds.

ETA: If I must pick only one, it would be tough to choose between Godfather, Alien, Star Wars, Jaws, Exorcist, Patton, or Halloween. It's a daily coin flip. Today it's Halloween. But then it is October...
