Just saw it in Plano at a 70mm theater.

I wanted so bad to come back here and tell y'all you were overrating it

It was badass. That score was unreal. My wife told me she needs a drink when it ended. Lol

My only complaint was those brits were hard to understand. Lol

On to the movie: the biggest weakness was the complete lack of scale. You never get the feeling that the entire British Army is in peril of elimination from the Luftwaffe. Single HEs attacking at a time? There should have been entire squadrons of level bombers hitting the pier or bigger ships. The air to air action was a real let down.

First sentence is exactly how I felt - complete lack of scale. The second sentence I don't agree with. As far as I know, the Luftwaffe didn't even attack Dunkirk as much as shown in the film..edit - re-read my history, yes the Lufwaffe attacked more than I thought...think I got that mixed up with a scene from the movie Patton.

Impossible to overrate a Nolan movie. Watching them is like having sex with an OT 11. If God was a director, his name would be Christopher Nolan.

Saw it yesterday. That's the first time I've watched a movie and felt panic like I was actually IN the movie. The first time they hit the sand as several bombs are dropped made me feel so freaking tense.

It was superb. You could feel the emotions in the movie; the fear of the soldiers and also the joy when the British civilians came in and rescued them. I haven't enjoyed a scene in a movie as much as that in years.

Shell-shocked or not, if Cillian Murphy's character killed my son so callously though then I'd probably toss him off the boat and say good luck with the oil.

That wasn't his son, but I get your point.

Watched it this afternoon

I was really worried there would be scenes from England with Churchill etc. So glad that there wasn't and they only focused on the 3 forces.

I imagine the guy driving the boat would have fought in WWI given his age so probably understood about PTSD.

The chronology of the events was all over the shop but not so bad it was tough to follow

As said before the boats arriving was probably the happiest I've felt while watching a movie, it was quite moving the sense of relief everyone must have felt for it.

It was one of those scenes that feels sort of cheesy but you like it anyways.

I'll be honest, I cried. One of the few movies that moved me to tears. As a cynical a-hole, it's an automatic 4 stars from me if you can move me to tears in a film. Happened less than 10 times, but Dunkirk was one of them. Nolan knows how to get me (Interstellar) or close (Inception) to tears.

My take was that it was a German advanced guard that arrived to secure the position and started shooting at the boat to render it useless while they waited on the main force to arrive. Not sure they even knew anyone was in the boat. Certainly not a big enough force with artillery to start attacking the main mass of soldiers on the beach.

I don't think it had to do with the tide. I believe the plan was to dump enough weight to get the original 2-3 holes above the waterline. I am sure that a 165lb man would have made little difference but that was really the only play they had. If one man wasn't enough I guess it would have turned into a melee inside to figure out who was #2 .....and #3......and so on. Of course, it was all soon for naught as the Germans didn't cease with 2-3 shots through the hull. They put dozens of holes in the hole rendering the plan futile.

then you need to watch Das Boot.

take the intensity and desperateness of Dunkirk and multiply it times 10.

I can't even re-watch Das Boot but in pieces it gets me so worked up.

As far as Dunkirk, I liked the hell out of it. My wife was wrenching my arm, I felt like I knew how it was going to end b/c I'm such a WW2 buff, but as above poster stated, big picture of the Wehrmacht closing in for the kill would have been awesome

You don't have to be a WW2 buff to know how it was going to end. All you needed to know was the basic plot line to the movie

Movie is amazing. Some couple walked out during it and said "this sucks".

Bet they think Transformers is amazing.

That is genuinely mind blowing for me.
