So true. As I said earlier, it's a best picture nominee and likely winnerthis far (only July)
Certainly won't have any individual actors up for any award.

Just got back from seeing my first ever 70mm IMAX. I am speechless.
I don't go to the movies often, but goodness... this was indeed a masterpiece. However, I don't think I can watch this in another format after seeing it on the largest screen I've ever seen in my life. So hype right now. fricking BRILLIANT.
Edit: (major-ish spoilers) I WILL say I got a bit confused about which tommies were which and I thought that One Direction™ was the one who drowned on the fishing/junket boat before realizing it was Frenchie.. who I initially thought left the boat through the hatch when the Enfield went off and the struggle started. But that's a minor thing. Movie was just plain just awesome.

No. Very little dialogue. Visuals and the score tell so much of the story.
I can see how someone would say it isn't their favorite Nolan film. I love Nolan for attempting ambitious things. Love the uniqueness of Memento, Interstellar, Inception. I can see how someone would enjoy one of those experiences, despite the flaws, more if they connect with it in some way.
But I would definitely argue this is his BEST work because it doesn't get dragged down by dialogue. The characters didn't have to be super strong and well developed for you to root for them to get out. It's only about 1:50, so it doesn't seem to drag in places like his other films seem to do. I thought the pacing was much better here than some of his others. He basically did more of what he's good at and less of what he's bad at.
Obviously a lot of stuff still has to come out, but I'd be shocked if there's someone who tops this score.

Saw it last night with my girlfriend. We both loved it. I would highly recommend seeing it. Mark Rylance was amazing. As a fan of Wolf Hall on PBS, I was glad to see he is getting high praise for his acting.

You think so? He was good, no doubt, but in such a limited role in terms of screen time and what was really asked of his characters, it's hard to see it.

Watch Judi Dench in Shakespeare in Love and get back to me. She had eight minutes of screen time and won an Oscar for Best Supporting Actress. Beatrice Straight was on screen for two minutes less in Network and still won an Oscar.
Mark Rylance has a good shot at getting nominated. I doubt he'll win though.

I read several articles on this yesterday, and they determined 70mm was probably the better choice. However, part of the screen will be cropped and you won't get the same sound quality. Nolan shot most of the movie on 70mm and he recommends people see 70mm, even if it's not IMAX

What an intense movie, well worth it to see it in IMAX, just wish we had a 70mm IMAX nearby.
