I just don't see how people can say this. I've had a few people tell me that they think Superbad is far superior to American Pie. For me, the characters, the stories surrounding each character, and the impact each movie had on films all favor American Pie. Superbad was just another movie whereas American Pie raised the bar.

I can see someone saying Superbad had more humor, but better overall? I just don't understand it.

Superbad was better than American Pie. The dialogue was much funnier and no one had to frick a pastry for cheap laughs.

Better in my opinion, but that's because Superbad came out the summe after I graduated high school, so it was more "my time" I guess.

Superbad is just a funnier movie although I do have a lot of nostalgia for American Pie.

Never liked American Pie. It's not funny or entertaining. At least it has one redeeming scene. Superbad was pretty funny.

Without a doubt.

AP was a mediocre sex comedy that struck a cord with high school kids.

The biggest problem for American Pie is that they never stopped making them, so I formed hatred for certain characters and started viewing most of those guys as tools.

Overall, Superbad. But I think that scene where Jim is blowing his load early is funnier than any scene they had in Superbad.

I really don't see how American Pie changed comedy really, aside from all the crappy unneeded sequels. I'd venture to say that the genre would be rather similar if American Pie had never been made. I don't see how it really affected Apatow's or Wright's works, the two people who made the biggest impact on comedy in the 21st century.

Superbad is a funnier movie

Amercan Pie is a better movie.

AP captured HS more realistically than any other movie ive seen for the most part (not including Dazed and Confused because it was a different era) and had better character development and plot. I love superbad though dont get me wrong

Superbad is the better comedy, American Pie is the better movie overall though

I made my stance on this clear earlier in the thread, but I will address this in defense of American Pie. It's not that it necessarily 'changed' comedy, but it was pretty much the first big R rated teen comedy since Porky's. It definitely pushed the boundaries enough for Superbad to be possible (not saying Superbad couldn't have been made without AP, but they definitely paved the way).

What did Superbad do to push the boundaries? Hilarious movie but not exactly groundbreaking on a comedic level.

I'm an old man who was in college when Animal House came out so neither is my generation's movie.

In my mind American Pie is easily the better story but Superbad, partially because of the low brow humor, is more watchable.

American Pie is really good and I liked it very much but I have no desire to re-watch it.

Superbad is one of those movies like Animal House, Blazing Saddles, Vacation, Caddyshack, Trading Places maybe even Porky's that will always be funny.

You could have made the same movie in the 70's, 80's or 90's and it would have been just as funny.

Also one was about the popular, successful kids and the other was about two unknown everyman type guys.

American pie is shock value shite.
It is not a good movie. Even at 18 I knew that.

Superbad turns teen movies on its ear. It's well written

AP came out when I was in high school. I thought it was pretty funny then. Now, it's unwatchable. Just a dumb movie. Superbad was great and I agree with what a previous poster said in that it will stand the test of time better than AP.
