A lot of outstanding war movies have been made without graphic gore. What's the big deal?

I need to re watch this, I just remember not liking Nick Nolte's character. Love the book.

Loved Nolte's interview about Malik and the film.

Nobody can tell what's going on bc of the zoomed in jump cuts every action scene.

To be fair, the ratings come from the MPAA . . . the Motion Picture Association of AMERICA

To be fair, I was obviously just adding context to your link since you said "Grossed".

And other countries have similar ratings that align with ours culturally

What does your age have to do with knowing what a movie is rated? Besides being full of shite (not a chance you don't notice movie ratings) why even try to sound cool?

Any war movie should be rated r, esp a Nolan one.

I don't see how a rating is relevant to a movie being good or not which is what the OP implied. And no. I don't pay attention to ratings. Just not something I look at when going to see a movie. Do I notice a rating posted here or there? Sure. But I don't make a mental note of it and it doesn't change my expectations. The "I'm not 12" comment was only a dumb joke. It wasn't a jab about being childish. PG-13... 12.

I can understand why people expected it to be rated R based on the subject, but I think every movie Nolan has directed for the last 12-15 years has been PG-13.

The only movies of his I can think of that were R are Memento and Insomnia, but the Dark Knight Trilogy, Inception, Interstellar, and The Prestige are all PG-13 and they turned out well.

They are incorrect. Search any other movie news outlet. Not that it matters but if you are concerned it will be PG-13 I can assure it is not.

Part of what made Saving Private Ryan so groundbreaking and incredible is how far they pushed the boundaries. If you really want people to appreciate what those men went through on that beach then you need to shoot the movie as realistic as possible. War isn't clean, war isn't nice. War is hell, it's disturbing, and it's as animalistic as humans can get.

I think leaving out the gore leaves out what the men that made it out alive went through, seeing their friends die gruesome, and a lot of times instant deaths is part of the story.

But that's just my opinion and I'm in no way a film buff.

I don't think that is necessarily the case.
