Christopher Nolan Taking "Naturalistic Approach" to Superman

Goyer explained that approach is more difficult when you are dealing with an alien than when you are dealing with a crime-fighting billionaire playboy.
“It’s not that easy with Superman, and actually this doesn't necessarily mean we will make a dark movie. But working on this reboot we are thinking about what would happen if a story like this one actually happened. How would people react to this? What impact would the presence of Superman in the real world have?”

Producers are the main players in the television, film and video industries. A producer will oversee each project from conception to completion and may also be involved in the marketing and distribution processes.
Producers work closely with directors and other production staff on the shoot. Increasingly, they need to have directing skills themselves as the producer may also be the director and may take care of all project operations. Producers arrange funding for each project and are responsible for keeping the production within the allocated budget.
Creative input and the level of decision making varies, as this is dependent on the client and the brief.
Producers are responsible for facilitating a project from beginning to end. They are involved in every stage of the television programme, film or video, overseeing the project from start to finish, both in the studio and on location.
Essentially team leaders, they are supported by production assistants, coordinators and managers, depending on the size of the project.
Typical work activities include:
raising funding;
reading, researching and assessing ideas and finished scripts;
commissioning writers or securing the rights to novels, plays or screenplays;
building and developing a network of contacts;
liaising and discussing projects with financial backers - projects
vary from a small, corporate video costing £500 to a Hollywood feature film at more than £100million;
using computer software packages for screenwriting, budgeting and scheduling;
hiring key staff, including a director and a crew to shoot films or videos;
controlling the budget and allocating resources;
pulling together all the strands of creative and practical talent involved in the project to create a team;
maintaining contemporary technical skills;
organising shooting schedules - dependent on the type of producer and availability of support staff;
troubleshooting;
supervising the progress of the project from production to post production;
holding regular meetings with the director to discuss characters and scenes;
acting as a sounding board for the director;
bringing the finished production in on budget.
In theory, the producer deals with all the practical and political aspects of keeping a project running smoothly, so that the director and the rest of the team can concentrate on the creative aspects.

This is the exact approach I have always thought they should approach Superman. Yes make Superman the protagonist, but make the focus on how others and the world react to his presence. This focus makes it all the more odd that Luthor is not a part of this film. He kinda has rational approach to someone as powerful as Superman entering the world and using his own sort of vigilante justice to change the world. Just don't make him the "real estate" tycoon and he doesn't even has to be the antagonist, just someone who Superman is negatively affecting from achieving his vision of a brighter future.

really excited to see their take on the character
IMO, what could make Superman interesting to contemporary movie audiences is his inner turmoil...i.e. not being able to save EVERYONE.
The cast looks great too.

Christ. If any superhero doesn't need to be naturalistic it's Superman. This goes to show that Nolan just doesn't get these archetypes. What an eye roller.

Would you rather someone like Jon Peters take over with his big giant gay spiders?
Or perhaps another Bryan Singer yawnfest that destroys the cannon?
I think Nolan's influence will be enough to keep Zach Synder from 300ifying the film and will balance each other out.

I read this and got really nervous that Nolan was going to direct another comic trilogy. Good to see he's only producing, though I know some producers practically direct. Hopefully it doesn't take too much time.

Yeah, someone who is supposed to be all things to all people, while maintaining a "regular joe" persona...that's the kinda character I want them to cheese up

For me too. And for a few reasons. His powers are too much. Eye lazers? Turning time by spinning the frickin planet? And I find Clark to be boring. Unlike iron man who is interesting whether in his suit or as Stark, Clark is boring. And he never had suitable enemies. Luthor always was cheesy and lame.

In live action, so far yes. But Luthor has not even close to been properly adapted to the big screen. Luthor should not have anything to do with real estate schemes.
