I actually happen to like meet joe black but agree with you about boyhood.
The most interesting thing about the movie is that it took 12 years, and that's it. it never connected with me, and coming of age stories are one of my favorite genres. i can appreciate the ambition of the film, but as a movie it didn't connect for me. I could watch whiplash 20 times, but you'd have to pay me to sit through boyhood again.

I agree 100% that if this movie was shot over a standard 3 month time frame, it wouldn't have even been nominated for an award

QT supposed to make a fourth episode of Kill Bill where Vivica Fox's daughter avenges her mother's (Vivica's) death?
Aren't there only two?

that's like saying that if Van Gogh had used clay instead of paint on starry night...
the method of filming was part of the storytelling. it COULDNT have been shot in 3 months. It would be impossible.

I liked RedLetterMedia's review of this, they perfectly summed up how I started to feel about this movie a few weeks after watching it.

Dazed and Confused is a great movie. But it is easy pickings. I love it dearly, always will. Just re-watched it after boyhood.
This movie is deeper, richer and more savory. A snickers is a great piece of chocolate. But so is a Lindt bar.

I just finished it. It reminded me of the toy story trilogy minus the toys

yes it could have, you just use a different actor for the kids(which has been done in a million movies) and makeup for hawke and arquette. The concept, and execution of filming over 12 years was groundbreaking, great, etc. etc. but take that away and you have an average movie.
I think it should win the oscar for best director, but not best movie.
