Visually stunning and narratively satisfying, Blade Runner 2049 deepens and expands its predecessor's story while standing as an impressive filmmaking achievement in its own right.

I don't want to be too stoked. I want an appropriate level of stokage. Too stoked sets up disappointment.

quote:Yup. I wasn't too impressed by the previews so I'm going in with low expectations.

Ridley Scott’s 1982 classic Blade Runner popularized the cyberpunk movement (a gritty mix of neo-noir and hardcore sci-fi) back in the day, but 2049 (**** out of four; rated R; in theaters Oct. 6) perfects it. Super-stylish and deeply human — even with androids and holograms around — the spectacular follow-up takes the detective story of the first film and turns it into a grand mythology of identity, memory, creation and revolution.

With this visually staggering film, director Denis Villeneuve brings us to a kind of Ozymandias moment. It just has to be experienced on the biggest screen possible. Blade Runner 2049 is a narcotic spectacle of eerie and pitiless vastness, by turns satirical, tragic and romantic.

I will definitely check it out due to my love for the original but as Ace aptly pointed out it's best to temper expectations on the remake or continuation of a classic.

frick. I can't believe it may actually be good. This will be Harrison Ford's first good movie in what...20 years?

I don't remember much about the original but plan to watch it this weekend, then catch 2049 Sunday afternoon

Ahh, frick it. I'm just as stoked as I was for IT.
Trying to find all the easter eggs in this album cover AGAIN kinda stoked.
Iron Maiden - Somewhere in Time (1986)
Yeah, Dr. Who's Telephone booth circled. Old news.
Found it...The "Phillip K. Dick Cinema"
Hint: It's showing a film called "Live After Death"
(1985 live album)
second feature: "Blade Runner"
Ha. "Dekker's Dept. Store" THAT is a new one on me.

Currently sitting at an 85 on Metacritic. That's fricking insane. Best picture numbers.

I'm shocked at the reviews. I didn't really care one way or another when I first saw Bladerunner, but I have no idea what cut of the film I saw, so that may be part of the issue. Definitely watching the cut this board has recommended over the weekend.

Yep. Watching the final cut tomorrow
