But they were set up just to allow Disney to make non Disney films. Only reason I brought it up. Then first example I read after I posted was Roger Rabbit. A touchstone movie. I remember having one friend in fourth grade whose parents wouldn't let him see it.

People forget that Pretty Woman and Pulp Fiction were Disney films.

So do most preachers. What does that matter? Kids know the word "damn" by the time they're 5. Hunchback also said damnation and damn a few times in it as well.

Must have missed the Cinderella castle at the beginning.

The 6th Sense was a "Disney" movie also...

There is such a thing as emotional abuse, which I'd argue can be even worse and more manipulative. Frollo was never physically abusive of Quasimodo, but he's probably the single worst parental figure in Disney history.

Estimated 170 million dollar opening

Jesus, that's even higher than I thought it would be. I was thinking 140 million or something like that. That outgrosses Batman V Superman's initial weekend (and unlike that this won't have an 80% drop off next weekend). It's also the 7th highest debut of all time, and killed at the box office in both Europe and China.

Got tickets to see it tonight for a date. Will report on how I feel about it afterwards.

Are people really still arguing about whether this movie was "appropriate" for kids?

No. I made a statement saying it was appropriate and it didn't make sense that they ever mentioned the "gay scenes." The posters attacking me have a problem with people not wanting to take their kids to movies with overtly gay scenes. They're children.

This is like saying ESPN and ABC are not Disney. Simply not true.

I will say your posts are surprising and being reasonable with the gay scene. From everything I've heard, it's nothing different from what Disney has pulled before and you have to be looking for it to notice, which is how the others have been. Doubt anyone under 10 has picked up on the subtext of the other movies, and this seems to be the same.

There was an article where she mentioned that she took singing lessons before they made the movie. I will try to find it again.

It seemed clear to me that she was coached on the singing and they modified some of the vocals to play to her strengths. There is nothing wrong with that, but you would think they could have gotten a lead who wouldn't have needed so much obvious vocal help.

It really is like this. It is very weird that Disney folks keep making a big deal out of it given how they actually present the "gay scenes." It seems obvious to me that they know they would see a drop off in sales if they actually included "gay scenes" in their movies, because so far all they've included are scenes they have to tell everyone are gay that would never have been considered gay at all if they hadn't made it a point to tell us all about it.

They are owned by Disney, but do not adhere to the vision of Disney studios and Disney animation. Is that really that hard to understand or are you being intentionally obtuse?

They seem to all have the same vision in my view. They just try to be more subtle about it with the animation because they know it won't sell.

I thought it was just ok. I agree with everyone saying Watson was miscast. I just don't think she's anything special. Also, lol at the gay thing getting so much attention. It's really no big deal.

You seem like a moron. I don't shelter my girls from anything, but I'm not taking them to a movie that goes in "brave new" directions in gaydom. The way they made it out, I was expecting there to be a huge gay make-out session going on. Honestly, even if they think that scene is some brave gay scene, my girls were too bored by then to even be paying attention.

The part where the villagers all gang up on Belle for teaching some girl how to read was a little ridiculous, but that's about as liberal soapbox as this one gets.

You seem like a seriously miserable person.
