Currently in pre-production on Deadpool 2. Would mean a massive delay for Batman.

This is good news IMO. Live by Night was a massive failure and it shows that they actually care about the property. I like Ben's past movies, but clearly they saw some issues with giving him control of the character. It's what they should have done with Snyder but didn't. Considering both Matt Reeves and Denis Villeneuve are being pursued for the movie now, I like this. So long as they land someone like those two.

Yeah by allowing Snyder to continue to film the Justice League and Goyer to write the Green Lantern. Really seems as if they're listening to the fans and critics and not doubling down on their bullshite.
But WB wouldn't surprise me being this shortsighted only giving him crap for his most recent film instead of his filmography.

Unfortunately, among the things I heard about his departure as director, I heard a few specifics that — if true — lead me to worry there is at least a chance Affleck could also walk away from starring in the picture. I don’t feel those concerns are as likely to bear fruit, and I still expect Affleck will finish the screenplay as planned and then start prepping for the role by getting into “Batman shape” to ensure he’s physically and mentally prepared for the role. That said, I do believe there’s a chance now that Affleck could depart the project as an actor, winding up merely serving as cowriter and producer.
No way this happens. That would be catastrophic for DC. You pay Affleck whatever he wants and do whatever he wants.

JL may be great, but I say wait and see before they get too invested in this universe. As much as that sucks, it may be for the best.

Looks like he's out...

It looks like the planned Dune reboot has found a heck of a director. Following an initial report from last month, Brian Herbert (son of author Frank Herbert) has officially confirmed that Denis Villeneuve has signed in to bring his father's sweeping sci-fi epic to the big screen for Legendary Pictures.
Villeneuve's name was recently brought up as a potential replacement for Ben Affleck on The Batman, and although there is always a slim chance he could tackle that project once he's wrapped on Dune, one would assume this takes him out of the picture - if he was ever really in it in the first place, that is.

Affleck must have given in to the new director when he learned their mothers had the same first name.

DC is a textbook example of how NOT to make comic book movies.

How is this a good thing? He's directed a movie that won best picture w/Argo and also won an Oscar for writing w/Good Will Hunting. He has two more excellent movies in Gone Girl and The Town. One mediocre film negates all that?
If anything Affleck bowing out lends credence to the rumors that Warner doesn't care about making the script as good as they can and are instead going to fart out something as fast as possible.

Its one step closer to them possibly rethinking this entire direction. And considering Terio was involved in a lot of the ideas, I think its better that they bring in a fresh perspective. Just my opinion.

OK, we already know that Ben Affleck is no longer directing THE BATMAN. Now, DEADLINE.COM is reporting that Chris Terrio (scribe of the Oscar-winning ARGO and the Razzie-nominated BATMAN v SUPERMAN scribe) has just turned in a rewrite of THE BATMAN script.
Prior to this revelation, we were told that then-director Ben Affleck was co-writing the script with DC Films co-head Geoff Johns. However, the word for a while now is that the script for THE BATMAN has some significant issues. Apparently, this is why Terrio was brought on board to “rewrite” the script (though BOF has heard this was more than your basic script polish). Terrio’s involvement also makes sense due to his relationship with Ben Affleck. BOF sources would not confirm or deny that Johns, Affleck, or both did not assist on Terrio’s rewrite.

I didn't realize Terrio was brought in after the fact. They're even worse off than I thought. If JL does bad, no way this movie gets made.

Agreed. I just hope we do get to see Aquaman, because I'm excited to see what James Wan can do.

Warner Brothers with another good call. How do they keep hitting homeruns like this over and over? They must have a crystal ball or something.

but the project will undergo substantial changes and possible/probably another full rewrite. Warner Bros. is already speaking to several filmmakers about taking over in the director's chair -- including one of my personal longtime favorites to direct a Batman movie, Matt Reeves, who seems to be the frontrunner -- and word is the project will essentially get a fresh start once a new creative team has been put together.
quote:
If Affleck and Warner had spent the last few weeks noting Affleck's schedule and the particularly important needs of The Batman might necessitate him bringing in a collaborator, and if the remarks about the script had admitted Terrio was being sought to help get the script into shape for production, those frank admissions would've removed the seeming veil of secrecy and appearance of damage-control-mode, and the announcement of Affleck quitting the directing job wouldn't have seemed quite so sudden or huge. Now, we face another round of slow leaks, with word about continued script problems and the possible need for the new creative team to go back to the drawing board, and rumors that Affleck might continue slowly stepping away from the project.
quote:
This could all be solved by a simple announcement that a new director coming onto the project means the studio and Affleck are postponing further script development so they can work closely with the director on a unified vision, and that the extra time will let Affleck regain the focus he needs while teaming him with the best director and writers possible to get the project on firm ground. When it comes in bits and pieces that contradict one another and seem to reveal previously undisclosed developments, then it gives the impression -- fair or not -- that there is no coherent plan, and that the process is entirely reactive instead of proactive.
quote:
That the script would need more rewrites, particularly with a new director joining the picture, was a given. How extensive the process will be -- I'm hearing anything from "major rewrites" to "a completely new script," including starting from scratch on the story if that's what it takes -- is unclear, not just to us but probably to those involved as well,
