any recommendations on shows or movies in this genre?
Ive really enjoyed the AMC show Humans, some of the episodes of black mirror on netflix, and the movie ex machino and even going back to I,Robot. Just wondering if there are any other good ones that I may have missed.

Edge of Tomorrow was good. Not sure it's AI, more alien.
Decent movie though.

There's one called Ex Machina that I heard was pretty good.

Ex Machina is probably the best. Not many films these days treat the audience as intelligent.

Chappie is pretty good. I think it does a good job of showing "human", gritty side of ai.
I did not enjoy AI the movie. Very lame at best.

The entire Terminator series is A.I. to the core. See also various computers (including androids, medical holograms and Enterprise's OS) in Star Trek spectrum (tv and movies).

It seems like most AI movies/series show them when they're pretty far along and lifelike. Are there any good movies about the struggle to create and develop? I know that's the basic concept of Westworld, but they brush over the technology and timeline(s) pretty broadly.

Bicentennial Man (though a little cheesy in spots) is a really nice story that spans decades of progress from the viewpoint of one family's robot.
