Bay thinks of it as his worst movie.

that's a bold statement. The only thing worse than this movie is the Aerosmith song in it. When i hear that song, it makes me wish an asteroid was headed for earth and landed directly on Aerosmith.

And see, I like the song (and remember how fricking HUGE it was in 1998).

That song is by far the most played Aerosmith song on Spotify which makes me cry every time I see that. As a human being I'm glad those guys quit doing drugs and have had long, successful lives and careers. As a music fan, well they were a lot better when they were doing smack.

As far as asteroid disaster movies, Deep Impact is much better, it's Citizen Kane in comparison to Armageddon .

I'm going to assume you're kidding, because Deep Impact blows in comparison. Only redeeming quality is that it has Morgan Freeman, and he's the President.

This was the first movie that the cast was allowed to use genuine NASA spacesuits. The cast are the only civilians to ever wear NASA spacesuits, which cost over $3 million each.

Bruce Willis came to the film after he decided a comedy he was filming called "Broadway Brawler" could not be salvaged and sought a way to exit the project. Disney's then-head Joe Roth worked out a deal where Willis would star in Armageddon and two future films for the studio, and in exchange Disney would absorb the failed project's costs as an advance against his initial salary. The two films Willis later made under this deal were The Sixth Sense (1999) and Unbreakable (2000).

When talking movies with someone I've just met, Armageddon and Independence Day are two of my benchmark movies.

If they LOVE these, I downgrade their opinion harshly.

They are both shite movies.

The cast did everything humanly possible to save this film from its director and screenwriter. The cast's efforts make it a watchable, but otherwise dumb film.

The entire thing was so overdone and overdirected by Bay that I felt like I had motion sickness watching it

See, I can watch ID4 as a guilty pleasure all day. It's a ridiculous movie, but doesn't (at least imo) purport to be anything else. It was well casted and Will smith and Goldblum carry lots of scenes. With Armageddon, Bay's shite directorial touch ruins everything. It's so overly operatic and melodramatic without a hint of irony. The cast didn't get the memo and tries to have fun, but it doesn't salvage the movie.

I love both of them for nostalgia's sake alone.

Doesn't mean I have bad taste.

I love Armageddon, but it also brought us the most overplayed song of the past 20 years, so I deduct points.

If you were a kid when you first saw them, then I can agree with you on that. There are a few really bad movies that I saw as a kid and LOVED. Now, even though I know they suck, I still have fond memories of them.

The Beastmaster, The Sword and the Sorceror, and Stoker Ace come to mind.....

It's probably for the best that you and I never meet then.

BTW, it's completely okay to love bad things.

I agree with this, I won't shite on someone for liking it, I get why you guys like it, I'll just shite on the movie itself

For the same reason, I think the movie is good (for the reasons that I listed), but I understand why someone would think it's ridiculously stupid.

There aren't many things in life that get Carson's approval. I am pretty cynical but he takes it to a whole other level. It has to suck to not enjoy anything.

definitely this

my favorite is how in the span of maybe two days, A.J. went from being fired by harry and kicked off the rig.. to owning his own business.

Plus the sign for said business looks all worn and dirty like it had been there for years
