HOWEVER, in late 2014, Shout Factory re-released the entire series and had gotten licenses or permission to use about 90-05% of the original music (and had recovered almost all of the deleted scenes). It's not perfect, but it's a close as you are going to get.

It's as good as it will get to the original aired episodes.

I think my fav is the episode where Johnny and Venus are participating in an on the air drinking test by the state police to show your responses slow after drinking - Johnny's response time increases.

Also when Herb is in the hospital so Carlson becomes Herb, Les becomes Carlson, Johnny becomes Andy to avoid a bookie looking for him.

Plus was when Herb was on a reality show and they show up a day earlier. Herb says the family goes to church on Sundays and they family was like, "we do??" So they load up and try to lose the crew who is following behind. Herb pulls up to a synagogue only to find it closed.

So many great episodes and it's a shame that CBS moved it on the schedule something like 11 times in it's four year run. Hard to find an audience.

I still think of "Herb", Frank Bonner, showing pictures of his kids in the swimming pool in his back yard.

Someone asked him if he blew the pool up by himself. I use this anytime someone tells me they have a pool.

CBS did everything wrong with that show schedule-wise. I was so pissed when it was cancelled for ratings. Even though I was only 14, I knew the "crappy" ratings were because of mishandling by the network.

Was going to mention Soap.

WKRP was a really good show, it blows current shows out of the water.

Soap was truly transcendent. Just so many memorable, completely insane storylines.

Can't believe I left Soap and Three's Company off of my list and also:

Benson: spin-off of Soap
Greatest American Hero - short-lived show but funny
Mork and Mindy
Happy Days
Laverne and Shirley
Carol Burnett Show - greatest skit comedy show off all-time in my book

Then in the late 80's you got:

Cosby Show
Family Ties
Facts of Life
Who's the Boss
Growing Pains
Cheers
Wings
Golden Girls

I was trying to stick with comedies. There were a lot of good drama shows on as well in the 80's.

One of the GOAT intro theme songs.

I've only Karaoked once in my life, Dec 11, 1995.

It was the WKRP in Cincinnati Theme Song. :mikedrop:

Barney Miller was still on through May of '82. That puts it at the top of my list of 80's comedies.

There was a journalism professor at NLU/ULM in the early 80's that looked and acted a whole lot like Les Nessman.

He didn't give us any tests for a whole semester. We had writing assignments every week, but no tests. He had told us we'd have a final at the end of the semester. Everyone was worried about taking it with no idea of what kind of test he might give. With a couple of weeks left in the semester, he told us our final would given as tests on the last three days of class. We were all even more freaked out about not knowing what to expect. I've never been so afraid of a little pencil necked geek.

These and the others mentioned bring back some good memories

All in the Family
Good Times
Newhart
Mary Tyler Moore
Lou Grant
Barney Miller
Dukes of Hazzard
Love boat
Fantasy Island
Incredible Hulk

Reading this list brings back a lot of childhood memories of watching TV. I'd add:
Three's Company
Different Strokes
Silver Spoons

80's TV.

I grew up watching this show along with:

Taxi
Benson
Barney Miller
Ironside
Soap

These were all late night shows that came on between 10 and midnight.

Always loved the jazzy melody of Taxi

Barney Miller theme. Funky opening bass line into some sweet guitar. Horn section.....

Man, there were some awesome theme songs back in the 80s.
