Just caught Harlock: the Space Pirate on Netflix. Really very impressive and cool computer animation and maybe the worst, most disjointed story I have ever experienced. The premise is pretty cool, but there is no character development that makes sense and really most of it just doesn't make sense.
Apparently it is the highest budget movie Toei has ever put out according to IMDB. $30 million. You can really see it in the impressive animation. The finished product just isn't good at all.
Anyone else have experience with it?

Yea, I caught it on Netfkix. I agree with what you said. Animation is great, but, geez, the story is abyssmal.

It was the movie that got me back into Anime, roughly 2 years ago. I agree with everything you said, but I still really enjoyed it. Now here I am, having watched WAY too many shows in the past few years.

Kuromukuro is a damn good show. One of the better paced shows in recent years, I highly advise it to Mecha fans. Non mecha fans would enjoy it as well. For a studio that had never done a mecha show before, they nailed it, and it was original material which is extremely rare in Japan. No manga for them to follow.
Kissanime has the rest of the episodes if you started it on Netflix.

Harlock is...Harlock.
It's a disjointed story that jumps all over the place and ties in with Emeraldas and Galaxy 999.
If you were confused, don't be ashamed. The series has been ongoing since 77 and it's continuity is hotly debated.

This statement is the same as saying "I really like Hentai". That show was incredibly ridiculous, but the physics defying animated tits keep you hanging around for the whole stupid ride.

I loved DxD, read the novels even. Supposedly season four is in the works.
If anyone's a fan of Working/Wagnaria the adaptation of the "pilot" series WWW.Working just started this past weekend. Different cast of characters and not really related at all besides being set in the same restaurant but it does have the same overall vibe and style of humor.
Forgot to mention; if you like DxD and HSotD you'll probably like Shinmai Maou as well. Though be warned that it's even more borderline hentai.

Drifters.
It's a new show out this fall from the creator of Hellsing Ultimate, and it's damn good. Actiony, fantasy, gory, and funny. It hits all the right notes.
This is the OP. Should be all you need to get interested if you like these kinds of shows. LINK
Seriously, go watch it. Now.

The creator of Hellsing Ultimate? Count me in.

It even looks similar at times. I havent been this excited for a show after only 2 episodes since....I'm not sure when. It's really good, imo.
My only complaint is; I don't like that they mix hand drawn stuff with cgi for battle scenes, but I understand it.

quote:This seems to be the go to art style now. It is likely significantly cheaper to do. Main characters and areas of focus are drawn while the extras and outside scenery are CGI.

As long as it is subtle, I can live with it. I don't like it, but what can you do?

Damn, reading a little bit on Wikipedia definitely has me interested. Hellsing (Ultimate) was pretty badass. Now I guess I can put that Crunchyroll membership I forgot to cancel since Berserk ended to use.

Did ya'll watch the OP? Curious what ya'll thought of it. I love the song they used, and it gives a great tone to what the show is about without spoiling anything.

Yarp, just as long as it isn't all CGI like say...the newest season of Berserk, I can live with it.

I could harp on CG in anime all day. I hate it. It made me want to cry seeing what they did with Berserk which I feel deserves much better.
Guys? Member hand-drawn anime? Member?
As for the OP, I had to watch it on mute at work. I liked what I saw for the most part. It didn't look like too much CG, but I did see a couple spots that reminded me of something like one of those motion comics, which I don't like

You'll like Drifters. It's 90% hand drawn. Which is better than a lot of fighting shows these days.
