How long did last years winner last?
59 days I think. Right at two months.
Posted on 4/22/16 at 9:13 am to BlackPawnMartyr
He was at 56 days and still going strong when they came to let him know he won.
Second place quit at 55.
Third was 43 days, fourth was 39.
No one else made it more than 8.

I've never heard of this show but caught about the first 5 minutes last night before I got sidetracked.
I'm intrigued by the premise but have a question. Obviously they are alone out in the wilderness and film themselves with cameras. But in just the very short amount of time I watched, after the people were first dropped off, I noticed several times that there would be establishing shots that were in much better definition than their personal cameras. For example when the black dude was first dropped off in his area, the show cut to a new "scene" where there was a camera shot from some bush and it showed him just walking along in the woods. Was that a cameraman? Or did they give him instructions to place his camera down on record, back up, then walk by to get different angled footage?

They dropped off a big case with several cameras (and I assume some way to charge them) to each location ahead of time, and all the contestants when through a crash course on using them beforehand.

Alan said last year he could have gone maybe another 2 months or so.

They had to pay that idiot to leave the show that early. There's no way someone could be that much of a pussy with $500,000 on the line and all the time already put in preparing yourself. He literally didn't even try.

Alan won season one. He stayed out 56 days. The runner up lasted 55 days. They picked up Alan a day later.

So glad this is back on..
Desmond has zero sense of the outdoors and his bravado was so thinly veiled that it became obvious he wouldn't last. Hes probably a tough dude and states he spent time in foreign hostile zones but this is a completely different animal.
Like last year, I wont ever claim to be able to win this show but feel many go about this the wrong way. Allan basically turned himself into a bear last year.. Found a water supply and basic food source and crawled up into his little den and slept the time away keeping himself busy with his personality. Most cant do that which is why I really liked Lucas last year. His emotional state which was on full display was what let him down but he worked on projects that kept him in it for longer than I thought his emotional state would.
I would love to see someone, Find the water supply, find some decent food stocks ( lack of ability to eat mussels hurts this premise) and build a structure.. Think log cabin style.

You're exactly right. Alan did it the right way and Lucas just ran out of things to do and his emotions caught up to him. Sam who came in 2nd was just a nut.

Just watched. Wow at Desmond.
What a waste of a spot. Some pissed off applicant rejects out there.

THANK YOU.
I've never understood why the contestants don't built larger shelters. There's plenty of logs to make cabin style structures. Plenty of bark to sheet strip & make a decent roof. Hell cover with branches or pine straw for double protection.
The guy that won last year even said how important it is to have space to move around all while keeping DRY. It's more mentally important than anything else.
But you can also build some pretty sweet stone firepits in a larger structure, which would help dry out the firewood, smoke fish, & hang clothes.

Im rdy to see the other contestants. pretty unimpressed with Ep1 having not watched any of the other intro/prequell shows. They obviously made ep1 include most of the push overs. I hope we get at least 5 of these guys over 30 days, I rly want to see that much variety and see that many people deal with isolation.
I know it would never happen because they say all the contestants are separated, but how bad arse would it be if one guy started stealing another guys fish/mice and the other dude just kept thinking he had bad luck? see some primal fkking rage come out if they're on like day 80 and get caught stealing. get stabbed to death with a mussel lol

Was Larry Roberts the one who was hating life because of his terrain? He would have thrived on Desmond's location.

Something cool Mike posted on FB just now about bears.
A word about bears on the Island:
I encountered bears regularly while living on the Island. I chose not to film them. Why? It felt disrespectful. I barged in on their home, set up camp, ate their food, etc - without ever being invited. It was rude. I didn't want to add insult to injury by further invading their privacy. I lived apologetically. I didn't film them. It was my small way of being respectful. They accepted me or perhaps they merely tolerated me. I also believe Jesus sent holy angels to help calm the bears, to take away their fear of me, and to supply its place with peace.
