Will Smith. His most versatile role was in Fresh Prince of Bel Air.

Yea when I go to a denzel movie I pay to see denzel
Which I guess is true of any of these guys if you like who they are
When I watch mission impossible sometimes I find myself thinking "hard to believe he sunk his dads porsche in high school"

Ethan hawke, who I strongly dislike, is always his perpetually whiny faced self in every role to me
his character in Dead Poets Society versus Reality Bites
totally different characters both very believable and brilliantly portrayed

Gene Hackman
Grantland had a GREAT piece on him a few months ago, I believe. He has several different characters he plays. They laid it out pretty well.

How in the hell can you say Tom Hanks??? He has played so many diverse characters. Forrest Gump, Saving Private Ryan, Philadelphia...I could go on.

Ok ethan hawke fanboy. I said I strongly dislike him. clearly not the case for you
He just plays the melodramatic pansy in everything to me. I could be bias tho

quote:Thinking about it a little more, I think he might have two characters. Scared, angry, loud Gene and well spoken politician Gene. Either way, Gene Hackman might have the best screen presence of any other actor I can think of. He's one of my faves for sure.

To be honest, most "movie stars" fall into this category, which makes the merely competent, character actors like Daniel Day Lewis look like geniuses, because they are the only high-profile actors who are actually acting.
The bar ain't high these days.
