Or is "actors with the least range" a better way to put it? Either way you hear people say this term from time to time

Tom cruise is tom cruise in pretty much everything he's in

Jason statham is always himself in everything

Ethan hawke, who I strongly dislike, is always his perpetually whiny faced self in every role to me

Vince Vaughn maybe

Who else?

I like him, but Tommy Lee Jones comes to mind.

John Wayne.

Mind you this was a conscious decision on his part. He had the range to play other characters, do accents, all that razzmatazz. Playing himself made him the biggest movie star for decades though. I would say it was a good choice on his part.

Jimmy Stewart and Tom Hanks also get a nod here. No matter what the role they make it seem like themselves.

Idk if I agree with Hanks. He has some mannerisms that shine through sometimes, but hes played some diverse characters. Aside from his comedic roles obviously

I think Tom cruise is the biggest offender, he has always played the young cocky dude, even as he has gotten older

Liam Neeson was the very first actor I thought of.

Most of the others mentioned have shown range, at least in their younger days, but Neeson is the same in everything. Hell, he played a mute in Suspect (1987) and it may have been his best part, but still pretty much the same character.

I think I consider Edward Norton one of these, but only because his voice is so distinguishable.

Seth Rogan.

Jim Carey and Adam Sandler also have a number of characters that are extremely similar.
