As far as I can tell the last time a notable film production of this was made was 1980. That surprised me, since it's a really great story. So I have a few questions:

Would you go see a film adaptation of this which was made with a big budget and had big names?

Why is this not already in development?

Who would you like to see direct? Star?

I think the story would resonate well given the political climate in the US today.

I would if it looked like a good script. Star power isn't overly important to me.

It's a great book though, although I haven't read in 20 years or more.

Mel Gibson direct... not sure about a star.

This is another product that might benefit for the space and time allowed by a cable presentation - not a multiple season issue, obviously, but a 4 or 5 parter would do justice to the story nicely.

Frankly, it surprises me that a network hasn't optioned all of Dickens, for example and do a different novel every season (ala American Horror Story) - same could be done with Shakespeare and bring some of the classics to life for the modern generation of television.

Seems perfect for that format.

Anything Dickens is worth my money.

What about a newer BBC adaption? I liked the recent Little Dorrit, haven't seen Bleak House or David Copperfield.

If it were a big budget movie I would say Joe Wright to direct, Fassbender and Mia Wasikowska or Melanie Laurent as leads.
