It's one of those movie endings that still bugs me. Why should she try to make her sister feel like she's better than she actually is? Why make that sacrifice?

Subtle? I thought it was pretty well known she did. The way it comes out of her hand in the shot is very "intentional" looking. Her hand hits the ground with the ball in hand then all of a sudden it opens and the ball falls out.

She doesn't. And people who think she did are fricking Communists.

I"ve always been kinda undecided on this subject. But after this post i watched the ending on youtube, and i have decided that Dottie DID NOT drop the ball on purpose. She did however fail to secure the ball, which is why it was violently knocked free by a blood thirsty, out for validation, Kit.

Scared of success, because she knew her place was in a kitchen somewhere.

I don't know why she dropped it on purpose, but she definitely dropped it on purpose.

honestly, I could see this. Her husband had just gotten back from the war and her dream was to start a family with him. Playing baseball would interfere with that. Kit had baseball and that's it. So Dottie gave her the fame.

Seriously? This again.

This ignores the fact the film is actually, mainly, Kit's story, but told, primarily through the perspective of Dottie and Jimmy (although their stories are important, too).

"I got you on the train."

Kit leaves the shadow of her big sister to become the hero. She "wanted it" more. That's what dropping the ball symbolizes - Kit's victory over Dottie.

If Dottie tanked the game, that shot is meaningless. Why would she be coaching the pitcher on how to pitch around Kit if she were tanking the game? Why we should turn around and come back to play in the first place if she were tanking the game?

Your analysis is poor, fine sir (with all due respect.)

I wish Kit would've just accepted her role in life and not been so annoying. Look, Dottie is a dime, you are not, deal with it
