#5.Terminator 2: Set the film in 1999

#4. True Romance and Natural Born Killers: Let the Writer Direct

#3. Unbreakable: The "twist" is moved to the middle of the film

#2. THE DEVIL'S ADVOCATE: Cast anyone other than Keanu Reeves.

#1. Eyes Wide Shut: Replace the real life celebrity couple at the center of the film

It's a full article but those are the films and the perceived flaw holding them back...

I agree with this. The movie could've been so great with better direction/screenwriting. i enjoyed the premise of it, but it was executed terribly.

I watched some of The happening on FX today...That shite is comically terrible cinema. Some awesome unintentional humor in there.

I would of liked to see Bruce whop some arse. shite they could have made a sequel. Does he die at the end ? I can't remember.

Seriously, its debatably the best action film ever made. List is a complete failure. Its not a bad idea to have it set in 1999, but the film was a classic regardless.

My addition: A.I. if they ended the movie 20 minutes earlier.

I'd actually agree with this, but have Kubrick direct it. AI clearly isn't Speilberg's style.

interesting list... of course, then I got sucked into reading their OTHER lists... I just spent several minutes cracking up over their "8 Classic Movies That Got Away With Gaping Plot Holes" list... the Harry Potter/Star Wars ones had me crying with laughter...

Help with an argument in another thread.
Was Gone Baby Gone on that list?

Wow this guys articles are painful to read.

Another article is "5 Classic Movies That Seemed Like Terrible Ideas At The Time".

One of the movies he lists is Pirates of the Carribean because...

quote:

The pitch had to have sounded something like this: "So, I know that literally every single pirate movie ever made has been a bomb. But this one will be based on a Disney ride. And it will star that weird guy from all of those Tim Burton movies. Oh, and I'll need $140 million."

So he's telling me in 2003 Johnny Depp, who had been in Edward Scissorhands, Whats Eating Gilbert Grape, Ed Wood, Donnie Brasco, Sleepy Hollow, Blow, Fear and Loathing, etc. was a no name Tim Burton project weirdo? Thats your reasoning for POTC being a bad idea? Cmon dude.

One scene is a classic...the movie isn't as a whole...it just misses barely. Underrated, incredibly rewatachable but ultimately forgotten by the public at large. Tarantino has said he would have made a different movie than Tony Scott did and followed his script to the tee...e.g. they don't live and get away at the end. I don't know if that ending would have saved the movie but as it exists, the movie is a little too "Last Boy Scout" toward the end.

He's actually completely correct on that one. Pirates before that film was very much box office poison. How would you feel as an executive when someone came up to you saying they're not only going to adapt a roller coaster, but also one based on pirates, a genre that hasn't had a real hit since Disney's Peter Pan. Yes its really nothing short of a miracle how well PotC turned out.
