6 episodes in. I'm enjoying it, not quite as much as I hoped. The wifey is really enjoying it despite it being quite a bit different than the novels.

Auggie is for sure the worst part of the show. Thank God she's hot because her character would be hard to bear without her looks. She just annoyingly bossy and not very believable as a brilliant scientist. Nothing she has said or done, especially given her age, makes you think she's someone that's a leader in her field coming up with cutting edge science.

*see's the VR game for the first time*
"OMG why the f**k are you playing this???!!! Promise me RIGHT NOW you will never ever play this!!!"

I mean she didn't ask a single question about the game or know anything about it yet she is demanding they not play it. Just an annoying character. But overall, she's not dragging the show down, just the worst part of it imo.

She's the girl boss archetype for the show. She's whiney, needlessly confrontational, and doesn't really add much to the story other than to show that women can succeed too.

I am halfway through the third book. Honestly its been awhile since i read the first book. The show confuses me how they've mixed up some things.

Glad I'm not the only one. She's not a good actress.

The rest of the cast has been pretty good.

This show is all over the place and uneven. Still, it kept my interest which is rare these days.

Yes. Most of these people didn't even live in the same timeline. Their wasn't really some big friend group. Jins book character was in the same timeline as Marks but they didn't have a close relationship, she was just basically the only person at college that showed him any attention so he liked her. Auggie's character was a guy and he was actually the one playing the game, not Jins.

I legitimately didn’t think about that all until you pointed it out. I feel like this probably says more about your thought process than anything else.

It’s a good story. I know because I watched it all & wanted more. Despite the flaws or issues I had with the series.

But the casting was needlessly mucked up. For a modern , more inclusive audience , as they love to tell us.

We saw it with Rings of Power, Foundation & a whole bunch of other stuff.

I can enjoy Godzilla x Kong, but the far superior movie is Godzilla -1.

Don’t know about books. But the racial/ gender makeup of the series’ cast isn’t a problem as far as I can see.

The only thing that was really noticeable was one female character correcting another female character when she referred to a neurologist as a "he".

It was something the effect of :

"I went to a neurologist"
"What did he say?"
"She"
"Oh, ok"

Not a big deal just really weird forced dialogue. The neurologist does not appear in the show.

Didn’t really bother me until episode 6. Now I hate her.

There are different locales and ethnicities but not overt DEI unless you’re really determined to find it.

First time I tried to read this book, the names were all in Chinese and could not keep with the different characters. I put it down and found an audio book where the character names were mostly translated into Bobs and Johns. Once I found that version I enjoyed all the books.

Definitely not a ringing endorsement of Communist China.

Definitely less so when you personally know someone whose family fled there because of the onscreen events shown at the start of the series.

"Make believe" has a different twist when it touches on real world events.
